Reid says Senate close on passing health care bill

Reid says Senate approaching end game in overhauling nation's health care system

The Senate Democratic leader says the end is in sight on passage of a sweeping health care overhaul.

Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday that presidents and lawmakers have tried for some 70 years to remake the nation's health care system. This time, however, Reid said, "We're there."

The 10-year, nearly $1 trillion Senate bill would expand coverage to some 30 million uninsured and bar insurance company practices of denying coverage to those with a medical history. The Senate began its eighth day of debate on Monday. Democrats hope to finish the legislation by Christmas.

"or sticking with the status quo."

That is the amendment Sen. the Leo would offer if she were in Congress. ;)

6. I think that if they were still a long way from having enough votes...
.... then they wouldn't even be considering working through Christmas. No need to give up holiday plans if things dont look good.

We shall see....

9. Yes that makes sense... and the "we're there" also sounds pretty optimistic.
Really hope so. They need to get this thing passed and signed.

Thanks for the link..

7. Alexander (R-TN) says "the 2,074-page bill would turn the current health care system upside down."
But I thought it was an inconsequential piece of corporate pablum?

15. If it COULD have been, it WOULD have been. This was the best they could get
