17. LOL, funny that you wrote Busy instead of Bush...
because I was just gonna say how I thought the redesign was a lot less BUSY than Bush's Oval Office.

3. He got rid of the
bucking bronco on the sideboard. It's a sure sign that he's a muslim on the verge of implementing Sharia law in the US.

It's all over people.

That being said, I've never been a big fan of vertical stripes, I like the understated carpet and furnishings though.

New and reupholstered furniture, new paint and wallpaper.
_ New rug produced and donated by a Michigan-based business and paid for by the non-profit White House Historical Association through a contribution from the Presidential Inaugural Committee. (This fund is being used to pay for the design costs of numerous rooms at the White House including the Oval Office, Yellow Oval Room, Center Hall and West Sitting Hall.)
_ The existing furniture in the Oval Office will remain the property of the White House and will be placed in a storage facility.
_ Oval Office walls were covered with handmade striped wallpaper produced in Amagansett, N.Y. The trim around the Office was re-painted with American-made Benjamin Moore paint custom-mixed by Donald Kaufman Color.
_ The new wheat, cream and blue colored oval-shaped rug is made of 25 percent recycled wool. The rug has the Presidential seal in the center and historical quotes of meaning to President Obama around the border. The rug was made and donated by the Scott Group, an American carpet manufacturer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Scott Group previously made the Oval Office rug designed for former President Bill Clinton as well as rugs for the White House State Dining Room.

was produced here- very good. As an aside, each president gets a desk chair that is tailor made for his body and has kevlar in the back.

29. Too much beige, too boring.
The Bush rug that Laura designed was more attractive. The coffee table is drab. The one improvement IMO is the wallpaper.

I prefer a little more color, but to each its own.......

8. Ehh...I liked the blues and peach colors in Bush's carpet better...
than the more tan rug President Obama chose.

But President Obama's wallpaper is a little nicer. The couches look comfier as well.
I don't like that table/box that he has in the middle though.
And really - does he expect people to actually eat fruit while sitting on those couches?

13. I'm embarrassed to say I agree
I didn't think there was anything I could like better regarding the Bushtard. This trend toward military hues bugs me. My hospital just started this.

27. The tan rug is framed by amazing, inspiring quotes
The rug has the Presidential seal in the center and historical quotes of meaning to President Obama around the border:

1. "The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself," President Franklin D. Roosevelt
2. "The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice," Martin Luther King, Jr.
3. "Government of the People, By the People, For the People," President Abraham Lincoln
4. "No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings," President John F. Kennedy
5. "The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us," President Theodore Roosevelt

I think it's great. But then, I'm a fan of understated design.

From the pool report:

The new wheat, cream and blue colored oval-shaped rug is made of 25 percent recycled wool.

Obama picked a bunch of historical quotes that you can see around the edge of the rug. They are:

“The Only Thing We Have to Fear is Fear Itself” – President Franklin D. Roosevelt

“The Arc of the Moral Universe is Long, But it Bends Towards Justice” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Government of the People, By the People, For the People” – President Abraham Lincoln

“No Problem of Human Destiny is Beyond Human Beings” – President John F. Kennedy

“The Welfare of Each of Us is Dependent Fundamentally Upon the Welfare of All of Us” – President Theodore Roosevelt

28. I liked the Clinton decor better.
I am more attracted to brighter more vivid colors.

I am not much of a neutral or earth tone kind of person so those colors don't have any appeal to me.

At least the rug. The dark blue looks very nice with the walls. The couches are a bit busy though.

33. I agree about the couches.
I would have chosen a solid color since the rug and drapes were so colorful.

As for the new Oval Office look, some designer described it as a "Hilton Suite". In other words, monochromatic and impersonal.

:D

34. I think the Bush oval office is feminine...the pale yellows...whereas the Obama oval office is more
masculine. But color, like form, should follow function...I like Obama's better for that reason...

35. Why bother?
I know the tax payers didn't pay for this make-over but why bother? Clinton did it over, then Bush did it over. Any one of the themes was fine, I think the group who paid for it might have done better to give the money to a school in inner DC for books this time.
Just as a gesture when the nation is really going through hard times.
