So... How's That Elizabeth Warren Appointment Going?
In case everyone's forgotten...

It's been six weeks since the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created, and Obama knew for many months prior that he'd likely need to appoint a leader to the Bureau. Still, we don't yet have a leader - why? What's the hold up?

In the meantime, Obama has appointed Geithner as interim head, and he's staffing the thing. No doubt he's selecting those people who'll fight the hardest for working Americans.

Wow, do working Americans need a New Deal. This Old Deal is murderous.

4. Obama wants to wait until after November to Piss Democrats off by NOT selecting her.
I just dont get it...why not put her in charge now instead of letting Geitner throw up all over it in the mean time...unless Obama knows that by putting her in charge will anger the right which apparently he is keen on not doing. So my guess is he wants to wait until after November before pulling the rug out of democrats again. If he did it now he would certainly seal the democrats fate this November but waiting gives him time to get cover to select someone else to appeare the right.....again.

the bankster wing in the White house and the party- doesn't want to go that direction.

15. Maybe because the Senate is on recess?
The fact is that no one can be confirmed until the Senate is back - so the argument that gives Geitner the chance to start it is pretty moot. The organization is under Treasury, but as anyone who ever worked in a corporation knows, being hired by the higher level person before your boss is hired is not a comfortable position - and often a short term one if you have different goals.

33. More incoherent than turning this into some sort of conspiracy theory?!
When Obama was deliberating on whether to send in troops or not to Afghanistan---so many here were glad he was taking the time to deliberate and he took his time. So much so they defended him because they wanted a leader who did that. But when it fits their agenda they are quick to say he's moving to slow...why? Why can't he move fast enough on this? It's a bit two sided and ridiculous and I've noticed this shout of it taking to long in regards to this position building for a while now.

In any case, why would a recess matter? All kinds of picks are named during a recess.

25. Indeed, they were. There is no good reason not to appoint Elizabeth Warren now.
And, if he does not, he will be 'dead to me'--unless I can be convinced Warren does not want the job--which is apparently, not the case.

14. Since Timmeh is being tasked with laying the groundwork the damn thing is a FAIL in almost any event
Warren will have very tied hands and lots and lots of corporate moles.

At this stage it is a waste of talent and she ought to be gearing up for a run instead of being drug down into the swamp that she may be uniquely qualified to drain.

Screw setting up this great American to fail, Warren 2012.

31. Bernie Sanders email: Warren Watch
WARREN WATCH - While the White House wasted no time in standing by the controversial Republican senator (Alan '310 million tits' Simpson), it is dragging its feet on whether the president will tap consumer advocate Elizabeth Warren to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Bernie has pressed President Obama to appoint Professor Warren. It has been six weeks since the bureau was created by the Wall Street reform bill.
