Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 04:17 PM by sandnsea

1. try not misrepresenting what Gibbs said.
“I hear these people saying he’s like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested,”

"like" is not the same as "equal to". It means that there are similarities. For example, gitmo.

3. There are many areas of civil rights/justice --
were O is exactly the same, if not worse, then W. On other issues he is not. Where's my drug test?

4. I agree. Some policies, some rather odious policies have continued
and there are people here who cannot handle that truth.

6. Very few are disputing that. The question is overall--foreign policy, energy,
fiscal, etc--is he like Bush?

17. foreign policy - not much change there
energy - did something actually happen w.r.t energy policy? Congress certainly did NOTHING. The administration's efforts included a politically calculated move to do a drill baby drill event just before deep horizon blew up. oops. As a nation we are doing NOTHING about catastrophic climate change or our idiotic dependence on fossil fuels. This administration is at least is not in FULL ON DENIAL, but neither is it willing to admit that we are falling off a cliff and doing NOTHING about it.

I do give the admin credit for doing something about health care, however what was done is just barely defensible, and comments like Gibbs, making support for an effective universal public system 'crazy', don't help those of us willing to defend what was done.

I give the admin a big fat zero on gay rights, on drug war idiocy, on corporate corruption of government, on financial reform.

human rights - another zero. Gitmo and obscene tribunals and targeted assasinations. Ugh.

7. I think it's a stupid false argument
and you can keep trying to make something of it while more and more disenchanted people tune you and your heroes out.

8. Ludicrous poll.
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 05:35 PM by Tesha
Your binary choices reveal your contempt for a
large portion of the DU membership.

Is Obama just like Bush? Of course not.

Is Obame continuing and extending many of the
exact same policies for which we were oh-so-
recently and deservedly excoriating Bush?
Absolutely yes.

But now that there's a Democrat in the White
House, we're apparently supposed to accept the
U.S. government trampling on our Constitutional
rights, accept executions without due process
by the Executive Branch, accept allowing the
Bush-era criminals to get away consequence-
free (again!), accept the on-going wars, accept
trillion-dollar deficits while we still throw
unlimited dollars at "defense", accept stalled
judicial appointments, accept on-going dsicrim-
ination against gays and women, accept cuts to
and derision of public education and educators,
accept on-going "faith-based" government funding...

(Shall I go on?)

than Bush in areas that count?

22. Depends on the issue
On some issues, he's worse than Bush- and having once taught constitutional law, is far more culpable.

I find this whole notion that recreational drug users are idiots to be ridiculous and offensive.

28. as a member of the unpaid left, I would have to say
This man is in no way like Bush.

I am letting the professional left say that he is. They've been doing a hella good job lately.

ANd the prfossional left is not Kos, It's Not Maddow.

It not you.

I am pretty sure who I know who gibbs was talking about. And if you feel offended -- then maybe you should be open and transparent and tell us who pays you. He specifically said the professional left.
I have pretty good idea of who he was talking about, what I don;t get is why so many people here are offended when I don;t think they were talking about them.

30. More like Poppy than shrub but mostly like Jim Baker/Bob Dole
Obama is a conservative not a radical regressive, mind you but an Old School Jayhawk conservative.

He has also taken civil liberties positions that no mainstream American would have adopted not too many years back, some a little better than Bush, some clearly better, others the same, and a few even more despicable.
