Robert Gibbs: 'I don't plan on leaving'

Robert Gibbs: 'I don't plan on leaving'

Press secretary Robert Gibbs, revisiting a newspaper interview in which he blasted “the professional left” for criticizing President Barack Obama, brushed off calls for his resignation during Wednesday’s daily briefing and said his remarks were the result of frustration with pundits who haven’t given the administration its due.

"I don’t plan on leaving, and there's no truth to the rumor that I've added an inflatable exit to my office," he quipped to reporters, a reference to the frustrated Jet Blue flight attendant who left his job by swearing at passengers and jumping down the jetliner’s emergency slide. Gibbs said he "could’ve said things slightly differently" during the interview, but he did not apologize for his remarks, which triggered an angry outburst among Obama’s allies in print, on cable news channels and in the blogosphere.

13. Thanks for the info! Now that it is settled...can we get back to
the issues? Like the fact that there were more votes cast for the losing Republican than were cast for the winning Democrat in Colorado. Now that is upsetting and very scary.

20. And POTUS is again showing no leadership
His press secretary blasts the base of his party and ----- silence. One more slap in the face.

There's not enough words to describe the happiness when he was elected and not enough words to express my sadness at his presidency.

21. OMG Obama hates Salt and vinegar chips
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 10:29 PM by Sheepshank
it must mean he hate all Brits.

Obama hates soft drink...therefore he hates 78% of this country.

Gibbs critisizes a select group...OMG he crapped on the entire Left.

Obama plays b'ball. All other athletes suck.

Obama has hired hispanics, women-folk, openly gay-folks, a couple of Republicans, and some dudes....he must hate everyone else.

The fallacy continues in the rhetoric that Gibbs crapped on the entire base.

23. There is a certain outrage that is actually proving his point.
For the record, I have a pretty good idea who this "Professional Left" is, and I am pretty sure it isn't you. ***

and... if it is you, why are you on DU?

*** Just a philosophical question for all those here that are outraged at Gibbs. Are YOU the PROFESSIONAL LEFT?

Do you make money from it?

But will Obama see it before it's too late? Who knows.

Gibbs is a tool of the right. No Republican could have done more to crack the base of the party than Gibbs' idiotic statement.

31. "Crack the base of the party"?
Hardly. A lot of the people calling for Gibbs' head were already saying they were only going to do the minimum for Obama next go-round by casting their (uninspired and unenthusiastic) vote at most. They've hardly been shocked and taken aback; they're just piling more anger at the Administration on top of what they already had going.

32. I wonder how many of those uninspired people have to stay home for Obama to lose
to some Rethug goon in the election.

He should definitely piss off the maximum number of "professional leftists" so he can find out.

33. Huh
I didn't know Gibbs had a fan club here. As for those defining the "professional left" - we need further elaboration.

In my "professional" opinion, I would have to say that the professional left has been responsible for the vast majority of any real improvement in government policies over the last few decades. If by professional left we are referring to people on the left who earn money through a politically affilated position that happens to be on the left.

"*** Just a philosophical question for all those here that are outraged at Gibbs. Are YOU the PROFESSIONAL LEFT?

Do you make money from it? "

If professional left is determined by people making money due to liberal (left-leaning, left-field, what have you) policies then I'd have to say no, I'm not professional left. I'm unemployed at the moment. If you define professional left as those who do or may profit through liberal policies, then yes, I'm certainly professional left. Unfortunately we aren't really seeing liberal policies, are we? That said, I'd prefer Canadian style health care to ours. I honestly don't care what happens to the Pentagon, I don't consider it particularly useful though. If I was to compare Obama to Bush, the comparison would be only slightly in Obama's favor. Mostly due to the fact that he can speak without sounding like he never graduated the first grade.

So should I be drug tested? Let me know. Thanks.
