Ezra Klein: What you really need to do, if you want to help small business
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 02:28 PM by flpoljunkie
(The media is ignoring the Republicans' filibuster of the small-business bill. I must say Mary Landrieu has been great calling out the Republicans for not passing the small-business bill. Harry Reid has filed cloture on a new bill that will be voted on when the Senate returns September 14th. Let's hope there will be at least one Republican who will cross the aisle and put the American economy above mid-term party politics. Emphasis mine.)

If you want to help small businesses, cutting taxes for rich individuals -- some of whom file as small businesses -- is an awful way to do it. The average business income on a 1040 is $40,000. Extending the tax cuts for filers making more than $250,000 isn't going to do much for small businesses. But you know what would do a lot for small businesses? The small-business bill, which spends tens of billions of dollars opening lines of credit to small businesses that want to expand. And you know why we don't have a small-business bill? Because Republicans are filibustering it.

1. That will be a good enough start
credits to small business are important as those credits can be used
to help boost the economy.

This is a no brainer, but considering how much hate the republicans carry
for this President, it is easy to see why this cannot come to fruition.

This will be the killer punch in the nuts if the President can pull this off,
it'll be nice to sit and watch them scream at the top of their lungs how
this President is Hitler, as if we haven't heard that before.

2. That is where all the new jobs will come from. Why don't the Republicans want there to be jobs?

3. Why don't corporations want there to be jobs either?
They are sitting on record amounts of cash. I'm sure they will magically start unburdening themsleves of it once there is a Republican Congress. Then they won't be Obama Jobs, they'll be ConservaJobs.

That's the political wet dream for the Pubs and their masters at least.

5. It is that coroporate "take no prisoners" attitude. I cannot believe the Repukes don't
want to help out small business. That just seems counterintuitive.

4. Net income for small businesses is very modest, given overhead.
Small businesses also benefit from deductions that individuals can only dream about.
