The Difference Between 2006 and 2010

Tom Jensen: "The big 2006 Democratic win was about voters abandoning the GOP. If Republicans have a big win in 2010 it's mostly going to be about Democrats staying home. And it's important to keep that in mind when considering the implications of the 2010 results for 2012- Barack Obama might be alright in 2012 even if his party gets pummeled this year if he get those folks back out to vote when it's him on the ballot."

"The reason Democrats won even though the electorate disproportionately consisted of Bush voters was that 15% of those Bush voters cast their ballots for a Democrat, a pretty large amount of crossover. There aren't nearly that many Obama voters leaning toward the Republicans this year."

1. Which is why Scott Brown is Senator
I voted for Coakley, but many acquaintances who would normally vote Democratic sat it out.

The Democrats can still pull this off - if they start acting more like FDR and less like Clinton.

2. Independents
They are a big problem. This Is largely why Obama's approval rantings are going down.Independents who are upset with why things are
going and don't want to remember things.Plus the Conservative media In the country Is no help.

We all have to be prepared for the possabilty of a slim Republican majority In the House come january. This may be necsary to
remind voters why they voted out Republicans In the first place. It may have to take sight of Impeachment hearings, hearings on revoking the 14th amendent, attempts to repeal anything Obama has gotten through, and seeing benefits to people being denyed In favor of more tax cuts for the rich to wake Independents.

Here In Missouri because of people's amnesia and wanting to blame Obama for all the country's problems Roy Blunt who has a record of antiSocial Security and antimedicare statements may get elected to the senate.

This IS what IS crazy. They will give Republicans years to destroy the contry but If the Democrats don't immedetly fix everything they
turn on them.

3. Those Independents/"Libertarians" were really Republicans in sheeps clothing.
That's what it was. It's not as if they disagreed with Bush or the Republicans. They were just embarrassed to be *called* Republicans, but they are.

Democrats won in 2006 because many people were turned off by the corruption in the Republican Party. They was also growing disillusionment with the war.

Democrats won in 2008 because people were tired of Bush/Cheney and their corruption. They voted against Republicans in droves because the Republican brand became unfasionable.

Obama ran and won on change.

Democrats may lose in 2010 because there hasn't been *enough* change for people. Right or wrong, Americans are impatient creatures. Our selfish, self-centered culture is impetuous, short-sighted, and not very bright about the internal workings of the political process. The Republican Party knows this. They exploit the fact that most Americans don't remember what a filibuster is and could give a shit about the political process or institutional arrangements.

Americans don't care about amendments to a bill. They don't care that not ALL Democrats think and act allike. They don't know about yellow dogs, blue dogs, DLCers--hell, they don't have time to make that distinction.

All they care about is that Americans gave Democrats an overwhelming majority in Congress, and despite all the successful work that the House has done, the Democrats in the Senate can't get things through, filibusters and holds notwithstanding.

5. This is the year of the teabaggers. Democrats don't seem to have a fraction of the zeal at this
time that the teabaggers have.

6. ZEAL?
Not really ... anger.

Most Dems have no idea how much the Tea Party folks hate "the left".

And hate is a powerful motivator.

7. That's right, I won't argue that - it is hatred,especially of the President's color.
