Racism at the Tea Party
LET’S TURN the conversation about racism back to where it belongs — with Mark Williams, Sarah Palin, and the Tea Party.

Williams wasn’t on the “fringe’’ of this populist movement. He was the force behind a nationwide Tea Party bus tour that generated extensive media coverage because it featured Palin. When Palin visited Boston last April, Williams was chief crowd warmer-upper.

“Political correctness is going to kill us,’’ the chairman of the Tea Party Express told the Boston Common gathering that awaited the woman in red. “Political correctness led to 9/11, political correctness led to Barack Hussein Obama. Political correctness is a societal HIV. (America has) a full-blown case of AIDS and we’re the cure.’’
==
Given the ongoing debate about who speaks for the Tea Party and who should be accountable for racist statements from people like Williams — how about the woman who used him as her warm-up act?

1. Exactly. The half-governor pals around with racists, but
her fans think that's just fine. The "national conversation on race" should focus on that - how potential candidates are trying to take the country back to the era before the Civil Rights Act passed.

I'm tired of Palin getting a pass on this.

7. The Civil Rights Act?
They want to take America back to before the Emancipation Proclamation. Just like the founders intended, of course.

2. Just because they claim not to be racists doesn't make it so.
I wish I had a buck for every racism-tinged conversation I've overheard in public places since Obama came on the scene.

These people are missing only the robes and hoods.

4. And don't forget .... The new Tea Party Caucus that Michelle Bachmann started ...
Breitbart is on tape saying that his job is to defend the Tea Party ... so basically his BS video of Sherrod was part of his job.

Bachmann, Palin, and every member of the Tea Party caucus should be endlessly reminded of this, and called on to specifically denounce Breitbart and Fox news for its obvious biad in using that tape to smear an innocent woman.

5. Remember during the campaign
and the Wasilla Quitta was giving a stump speech against Barack Obama? During a pause in her speech, a female voice cried out, 'he's a n****r!' Palin didn't bat an eye or respond to that horrific outburst in any way whatsoever. Those who claim tampering with the video fail to account for the doughy 'cow-girls' seated behind Palin and their bemusement upon hearing it.

6. Sooner or later, one of their all-stars will get caught on an "open mike"
and they won't be able to lie their way out of it.

8. Agree totally.
Even getting rid of Williams just scratched the surface to expose the racism that drew all those teabaggers to him in the first place. They're all still there.

10. The sad thing is most of these people really don't believe they are racist
They all say they are just "joking." And most of them truly believe it. Much of the problem these people have is white fear. The are afraid of losing their position of power, so they make up all of these memes, i.e. "The homosexual agenda", English as an official language, immigration is causing all of the problems, blacks are the real racists, etc. Having a black man as President shows them they are slowly losing control, and it is driving them to act out of control. They really fear the future and when they talk about taking their country back, they really mean exactly that.

I am also sick to death of hearing about "political correctness." What it usually means is that person can no longer use the derogatory slur(s) they grew up saying. I can really see why 1/2 of America votes Republican. I've thought a lot about it, and I really believe it has to do with how our brains are hardwired. Those who can think, reason, accept facts and change opinions based on reality, usually don't vote Republican. It is generally the closed minded, fearful of change, "if you're going to talk facts I don't want to chit chat" Americans who vote Republican.

12. So true:
"What it usually means is that person can no longer use the derogatory slur(s) they grew up saying."

That is so very, very true. Well said.

11. Exactly. I tell teabagger types to quit being politically correct, then...

and say what they REALLY want to say. What they want to shout from the rooftops...

Cowards, one and all. Small-minded, hate-filled cowards.

13. They scream in declarative sentences but where is the evidence?
Edited on Sun Jul-25-10 10:02 AM by lunatica
This is an example of talking as if known facts are implied. I want to know exactly how political correctness led to 9/11, or to Barack Hussein Obama (note the deliberate inclusion of the Muslim name). How is it like a societal HIV or a full=blown case of AIDS? Even the comparisons are idiotic. And how is the 'teaparty' the cure? They never say anything, but they use a lot of dog whistle words strung together in absolutes. Words that substitute for facts.

14. If it wasn't for the unwarranted
media coverage the "Ball Dippers" probably wouldn't even be around anymore. Why do news networks do it? It's just an underwhelming amount of uninformed white people sitting on lawnchairs.
I would bet money that half of these assholes just go to these "tp rallies" because they want to "get on the tee vee".
