Obama Should Have Weekly Televised Prime-Time Speeches
He's lost his connection to the people. That's what made him so special.

He could reach millions from that bully pulpit. I don't understand why he doesn't take advantage of the situation.

Every week we hear lies and slander from the right. 30 minutes a week, and Obama could turn that shit into sugar.

7. Obama is not Chavez and this is not Venezuela.
Our government doesn't own a specific channel to even go prime time, nor do I think anyone would be interested. The society is fickle so one minute Obama does good and when people say he's done bad people are quick to agree.

12. Thank you
Most of the time I just curse and delete and end up saying nothing.

16. You honestly think the networks would preempt their schedules each week
for the President? I don't think so. Even if they did, there's no guarantee the American public would bother to watch. You can lead a horse to water......

2. his speeches don't connect with me
what he has done which connects with me is actions like getting the $20 billion fund from BP, and actions like what he did with the Republic Windows workers before he became president.

4. You know, my husband and I were talking about this today.
We were comparing how W wss on every chance he got. Obama is missing a golden opportunity on keeping in touch with the public.

9. How can he stay with prime time...there is no opportunity here.
W was on vacation more than he was doing anything else.

13. That's true, but
you saw much more of him on t.v. than Obama. He should have been on last night going over the financial reform bill he signed, explaining it to the general public.

5. Don't know about every week, but basically I agree
When W and his wrecking crew came in, they immediately ran to the right, pushing and pushing as hard as they could.

But with Obama, they just throw up their hands and don't even try to push back to the left. There's no attempt to "change the conversation". But I'm afraid Obama feels his "mission" is more to heal the rifts in America than it is to actually govern the place.

6. Well, he isn't doing that very well either.
He and his administration have consistently pandered to the right, with no result I might add, while insulting and dismissing the left at every opportunity.

So we get right-wing "sweeping reforms" (read making rich people richer on the backs of the middle/working class that the Republiks couldn't get through 20 years ago, dressed up in blue.

How underwhelmingly changey.

11. then the media would say he is "over exposed" again. But I agree he should do more prime time press
conferences.

14. Who would air them?
The networks? The cables "news" channels? I doubt it. They're not about to preempt the schedules once a week for the President. And frankly, and I hate to say this, but it's true, the American people don't care. They're more interested in watching Lindsey Lohan arriving for court than anything the President has to say.
