One thing lost in this whole flap about vacation & the Obamas...
Edited on Sat Jul-17-10 09:38 PM by Drunken Irishman
He's got two young daughters. This isn't like Bush, whose daughters were almost grown when he entered office and out on their own for a bulk of his two terms.

The Obama daughters are kids.

Shouldn't Republicans embrace Obama's family values? A father actually going out and spending time with his family should be lauded - not criticized.

1. I followed a link to the FR site and to a thread about the Obama weekend. Absolutely
horrific, misguided, ignorant, offensive, and wrong. I don't recommend going over there...except maybe for those who forget what the opposition party mentality is. Anyone who is considering sitting the election out or who is saying that dems are the same at the RWrs ought to spend a few minutes actually looking at RW comments.

You will be reminded that there is a significant difference...

Republicans embrace hypocrisy.

4. It's a weekend get away for god's sake...
Bush took the month of August off and ignored a warning that cost thousands of innocent lives.

21. Exactly! What's with a two-day weekend in Maine? Bush Sr. used to
do it a lot in Southern Maine, where he owns a palatial ocean-front home.

Did everyone forget that papa Bush went there a LOT in his 4 years, not to mention his 8 years as VP under RR.

Obama, by my count, has had a total of three uninterrupted weeks in 18 monts... plus a few days/weekends here and there... doesn't EVERYONE deserve a free weekend here and there???

The kids deserve a break from Washington.

It's not like he can't be reached fer crying out loud!

Bush was forever in Crawford cutting brush at his 'ranch' no matter wtf was happening to the country. Ahhh, don't even get me started about that asshole.

10. I always wondered why the need to "cut brush" on a non working "ranch". He was
always there pretending to cut brush but why he need to? The ranch didn't produce anything, they didn't raise any animals. Just exactly why did he NEED to cut all that brush?

13. And the talking heads always posed in front
of a shack, a few bales of hay and a rusted old piece of farm equipment. Wonder who's brain fart that belonged to. Ari or Karl?

Has he ever been to Crawford since he left the WH.

Idea!! That's where they should have put his pResidential Library.

9. AND he is taking family style vacations.
Hiking, National Parks etc. Also he is within communicating distance of DC not way across the nation like Bush in Texas. Maybe if Obama started cutting brush he might improve his image with the CONServatives.

22. Actually, it isn't...
There is a huge difference between taking off 200+ days in a year and a half and roughly less than 100 days in a similar span. That's the difference between Bush and Pres. Obama. If you can't see that, then I really truly pity you.

besides that, you're just wrong about the difference between month long vacations and playing a round of golf.

They had to fly in with smaller planes. The other plane was carrying presidential aides. And Bo.

Another RW media manufactured outrage.

28. Screw That.. why doesn't the guy just get to do whatever on the WEEKEND??
Most American's work 40 - 50 hours a week, 5 days a week.

Why is Obama expected to work 6am - midnight 7 days a week?

If the guy was working from Chicago 6 months out of the year.. I'd see the problem. Oh. Wait. That was Bush in TX. Nevermind. :)

But, the constant bitching everytime he takes 2 days to not pass more awesome legislation then the last 6 presidents combined is getting a bit old. And, frankly the Republicans should applaud every time he takes a trip - because it means that he's not focusing on Immigration Reform, Increasing Taxes on the wealthy or whatever other "socialist" project that they don't want him to work on anyway.

Idiots.

30. I'm frustrated with the media about this...
Contrast Obama's family-style vacation coverage with Bush's somewhat heralded brush-cutting and bike riding vacations. How is that the rethugs almost always uniformly have the upper hand in mainstream media coverage? Why don't we have control of the message? As much as some, and even I have felt, I don't think this and other bad press coverage has really been Obama's fault.
