BP Says Has Reattached Cap For Leaking Undersea Well

NEW ORLEANS (AFP)--The oil containment system in the Gulf of Mexico was reattached Wednesday and is capturing oil again, BP PLC (BP) said, after it was halted earlier Wednesday following a collision involving a robotic submarine.

The cap "was successfully reinstalled on the Deepwater Horizon's failed blow-out preventer" at 6:30 p.m. local time (1130 GMT), BP said in a statement, adding that "the system resumed collecting oil and gas" a half hour later.

Oil and gas for some 10 hours Wednesday spewed unhindered into the Gulf of Mexico after BP detached its containment cap to make repairs after a remote-controlled submarine crashed into it.

I certainly hope whatever the new thingy-a-majiggie they are going to use works. Pleaasssseeee!!!

I'll see if I can find a link.

edit to add - "The Admiral also updated the schedule for drawing oil from the BOP through the kill line. The riser to carry that has been installed, and they are now hoping to have that hooked up to a second vessel by next Tuesday. This will increase the production capacity from the well to 53,000 bd."

..... this is a classic example of the difference between men leading the operation and women doing so. The men call it a "kill line" the girls call it a "thing-ma-bob" ... they want to pummel and stop it .... we just want it to work. :)

I cant even think of a time when I would use "kill" as a metaphor to describe a process ... "man! I'm 'bout to head to the bakery and KILL me some cupcakes!" ... I think that's just a boy thing.

Well ... that Palin woman probably uses that describe everything she does. :)

5. I think it's more an engineer thing.
Though I haven't the faintest idea why,(It's not as if "stop" takes any longer to say) pretty much any engineered process that stops something is called a "kill-somethingoranother". Kill-switches, kill-lines, kill-triggers, kill process, etc etc. Maybe now that women are overtaking men in the engineering field we can get away from that naming scheme.
