Peter Schiff Qualifies For CT-SEN Republican Primary Ballot

Peter Schiff, a tea party favorite campaigning for Chris Dodd's Connecticut senate seat, has collected enough signatures to qualify for a spot on the Republican primary ballot.

According to the Connecticut Mirror, Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz announced today that Schiff has collected signatures of 2% of registered Republicans in the state, qualifying him to get a spot on the ballot.

Schiff, an economist, will challenge Republican Party-endorsed Linda McMahon in the primary. Rob Simmons, who ended his primary campaign in May, will also still appear on the ballot, but is not actively running. The winner will likely challenge Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in the general election.

The TPM Poll Average shows McMahon leading Schiff 41.3%-9.3% leading up to the August 10 primary. Simmons gets 30.8% of the vote.
