CALL TO ACTION: Let's Make Rachel's "Oil is Oil is Oil" Video GO VIRAL!
Edited on Fri Jun-18-10 07:05 PM by polichick
Then maybe we'll get an energy/climate bill that will bring CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

Most Americans really don't know how the oil market works - Rachel sums it up nicely here.

I'm sending it to everyone on my email list - hope you'll send it to the people on your lists, and ask them to pass it on and CALL THEIR SENATORS.

5. Agreed K&R

One thing though, for others who cringe at Palin's voice, there is a snippet of her in the video. So be warned... but it is still very much worth watching.

7. I do have one problem with Maddow's essay and the same
problem with Jon Stewart's bit about 8 Presidents proposing energy independence: While all 8 have used the term "energy independence", it hasn't always meant the same thing. Some Presidents did mean more drilling here when they called for energy independence; so did John McCain. However, Obama did not campaign on nor is he now proposing to drill more oil in this country to achieve energy independence. He is proposing getting oil out of the equation by converting to energy from biomass, solar and wind power, more nuclear reactors and clean coal. I would oppose more nuclear power and expanding the use of coal; I think there is no need for these sources as a bridge to renewables. Still, I think he has to be given credit for trying to break America of the oil habit.

8. Well, Obama lifted the ban and announced more offshore drilling in March...
Just a few weeks before the explosion. The new ban is only for deepwater and only for six months.

9. I think Obama was depending too much on advice from the Department of Interior
and he didn't realize how corrupt some of the civil service employees had become. This may be his Bay of Pigs. If he goes forward trusting his gut instead of the "experts", we'll all be better off.

10. Wow - I haven't logged in in a while, but I'm surprised DUers aren't
jumping all over your post...

I think Maddow should win an award for such clarity and attention to things of such significance that are so blanketly ignored everywhere else - and doing so with such streamlined, understandable simplicity.

When I heard her explain this I was blown away (and a little miffed that it feels like we keep getting bait-and-switched with inaccurate statements made by those who want votes...grrr - or maybe I'm just naive and under-informed).

I don't see anything good coming out of this disaster, but it may very well be the beginning of the end of the Era of the American Gluttonous Oil Binge.

Somehow, I'm not heartened the way I might've been under different circumstances... (sigh)

Thanks for the post -
K and R'ed. : )

11. This thread has even been unrecom. - Some have thrown Rachel under the bus...
...because she dared to do her own "Fake President Obama" Oval Office speech.

Thanks for the k&r!
