New DNC ad calls on GOPers to "stop apologizing to big oil"
Greg Sargent

Think Dems are determined not to let the Joe Barton story recede into the background, now that he's retracted his apology to BP?

The DNC has rapidly put together a new ad starring Barton that calls on Republicans to "stop apologizing to big oil" and says that if the GOP takes over the House, Barton will be in charge of the probe into the spill as chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee.

A source sends over the script of the spot, which is paid for by the DNC and will run on MSNBC and CNN:

VOICEOVER: BP caused the worst oil spill in American history.

{Images or video of spill}

VOICEOVER: Now, at President Obama's direction, BP's set aside 20 billion for recovery on the Gulf coast.

{Images of Obama at the White House with BP execs; images of video of the spill}

VOICEOVER: But if Republicans were in charge, this is the guy who'd be overseeing BP.

VIDEO OF BARTON: "...I apologize."

VOICEOVER: He apologized to BP and called the recovery fund a "tragedy."

VIDEO OF BARTON: "So I apologize."

VOICEOVER: Republicans apologizing to BP? Tell Republicans: Stop apologizing to big oil.

The ad officially enshrines the argument that Dems will make as long as Barton is allowed to keep his committee slot: If Republicans take power, their choice to lead the probe of the worst man-made environmental disaster in our history will be a lawmaker who apologized to BP for Dem efforts to hold it accountable for the unending destruction the spill continues to leave in its wake.

Video when I have it.

3. Michele Bachmann's Dem opponent Tarryl Clark has a great new ad blasting her for standing up for BP
Minnesota state Sen. Tarryl Clark, the Democratic candidate to go up against Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, is looking to get an ad on the air going after Bachmann for having bashed the the BP escrow fund as "extortion" by the Obama administration.

The ad is not yet up on TV, but the Clark campaign is conducting a fundraising drive among supporters to get it on the air.

"It's BP's fault. And they should pay. But Michelle Bachmann calls making BP pay for the clean up 'extortion,'" the announcer says. "And said 'If I was the head of BP, I would let the signal get out there - 'We're not going to be chumps.'"

"If Bachmann lets BP off the hook, guess who's paying? Us," the announcer says. "Michele Bachmann: standing up for BP. Not us."

6. No, no, no. The GOP should absolutely KEEP apologizing to big oil.
I like it. It's perfect. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

7. This story reminds me of McCain not knowing how many houses he had during the election
The quickness with the way this story spread reminds me a lot of that.
