Because now it's quite clear why the President didn't talk to BP before yesterday. Had he done so, he would never have had the leverage to exact the concession he forced them into yesterday.

And while we're on the subject, it's likely the "The President is failing because he's not roaring like a lion while banging his shoe on the table" mantra will die down considerably since, as should now be obvious to anyone but the most partisan or unreasonable observer, the President managed to pull off this deal precisely BECAUSE he remained cool, calm and thoughtful throughout.

Now maybe, just maybe, the next time our President says, "Sit tight, y'all. I'm working on it," people will give the man some breathing room.

I know, I know - but a girl can hope, can't she?

true.

3. LOL! "Sit tight, y'all, I'm working on it" was my family-friendly euphemism for this!
Isn't it funny that this held true back in 2008 when people were freaking out that candidate Obama was DOOMED!? And now every few months or weeks, it happens again, only to have President Obama step up and quietly and cooly knock it out of the park AGAIN.

4. I'll bet when POTUS sat down with CEO, he had every detail of BP's income at hand...
Their annual report to the shareholders, where all the wells are located and how much they are producing, shareholder payout, executive bonuses -- the works. The papers were on the desk and the figures were in the President's head.

The $20 billion figure wasn't plucked out of thin air.

And he sure as hell didn't apologize to BP.

5. I bet you're right!

And I'll also bet that this would have been an entirely different conversation 6 or 8 weeks ago . . .

As the President said a little over a year ago - and, of course, was accused of being arrogant in so saying - "I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak . . . all right?"

7. Of course it did
It's hilarious listening to some folk complain that Holder being in the room was somehow unethical. Can you imagine what they would be saying now if the AG WASN'T in the room?

9. another example of twisted repub logic
Holder, a Dem, in the room, according to them to intimidate, is bad, even though when forced into a corner, any repub will admit BP is guilty as hell.

Sheriff Joe, a Repub, and his Merry Men can randomly stop and intimidate any person with Brown skin is O.K. There reason for this, if they aren't guilty they have nothing to worry about. So why would BP cough up the 20b if they had nothing to worry about?

8. Nor should they talk
Why listen to his effeminate little voice making more excuses?

I prefer the approach where the president instructs him to set up a 20 billion $ fund.

10. And crickets from the offenders. I wish there were more
honest people on here. Some DID do their mea culpas, but others are just waiting for the next instance to attack.

It gets tiresome.

I still have full faith in this president; he's getting things done that will be historic. Big picture, people.
