John Boehner Runs Screaming from Idiot Rep. Barton's Apology to BP
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/06/boehner-asked-whether-bp-fund-is-a-shakedown-seeks-distance-from-barton.php

House Minority Leader John Boehner doesn't want to be lumped in with Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), who in a hearing today apologized to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the $20 billion escrow fund that, in Barton's words, amounts to a "shakedown" and a "slush fund."

In an interview with Fox News this morning a few minutes after Barton spoke, Boehner was asked if he agreed.

"Would you call it a shakedown?" Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked.

"I have said since the beginning that BP ought to be responsible for all of this cleanup," Boehner said. "The fact is that they've agreed to put this $20 billion in escrow. I don't know what context Mr. Barton was making that remark, but I'm glad that BP has accepted responsibility for their actions."

1. That's a start! Get every stinking one of them on record!
Are you with the people of the Gulf, or are you with BP? Simple question!

9. So which Repukes DO we have on record as defending BP as of now?
Barton, Michelle Batshit Lunatic Bachmann, Moosealini Palin.... who else?

And have any of the DLC'ers blatantly done so? I know Mary Landrieu wants to get back to "drill baby drill" right away, but that could just be a "fuck the planet" mentality in general rather than specifically defending BP.

11. Haley Barbour...
• Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS) has also voiced criticism -- saying that forcing BP to pay the money now would cut into their profits, thus making it more difficult to pay more down the line. "If BP is the responsible party under the law, they're to pay for everything. I do worry that this idea of making them make a huge escrow fund is going to make it less likely that they'll pay for everything. They need their capital to drill wells. They need their capital to produce income. ... But this escrow bothers me that it's going to make them less able to pay us what they owe us. And that concerns me.

Then there's Unka Pat Buchanan: "Joe Barton, in my view, made a very brave statement."

8. Good..'cause wasn't it boner who wanted the taxpayers
to pay for the cleanup at one point until he realized what a stupid thing he said? He must have learned a lesson somewhere along the road.

14. Chris Jansing just reported that Cornyn was trying to cover Barton's
tush by saying that the President has become the Claims Adjustor in Chief and has politicized the disaster.

15. Slush Fund drift.............
That's how the right wingnuts are drifting this $20 billion escrow
fund now. They say it will increase Mr. Obama's war chest. They
say it will help fund Democrats in the Mid-term elections. They
say the Dems are gonna steal a lot of it. It's too bad, but a lot
of people will believe that. When is the Democratic party going
to market to the 12 year old mindset like the Republicans do???
I can hardly wait to see who and how the Dems will counter these
slush fund accusations that are popping up on the 'Net.
