HEADS UP: Rachel is going to give the speech she wishes the President had given.
This should be interesting - hope they don't wait until the very end of the show.

3. I find that sad.......
First one has to run and win to become President.
Then one has to have actually dealt with all of the bullshit served,
a fucked up senate and some racist asshole Pugs dogging you out
at every turn. Then give a speech, after giving a whole lot of them.

I still haven't heard of much intelligent analysis of what was in the speech
that was given, and there was plenty......

But whatever! It's her show.

20. In the words of one Gulf Coast resident, "I don't give a damn
about a climate bill, I care about paying my bills". The speech last night was not what Gulf Coast residents needed or wanted to hear; it fell woefully short.

Leaders in all fields are critiqued on a daily basis; it comes with responsibility. Anyone who has managed people and/or projects, knows darn well it comes with the territory and either grows a thick skin, or returns to jobs that require less responsibility and visibility. It's not sad, it's reality - and anyone who runs a three-year campaign for a job fully expects it.

I believe Obama is not being well-served by his advisors. This was a perfect opportunity to showcase his crisis management skills, but they've allowed him to be portrayed as being as inept at crisis management as his predecessor.

Rachel will be saying what millions of people were thinking last night as Obama spoke. Basically, "where's the beef?"

What I liked a lot about last night's speech was what he said about energy - that bill had been on the back burner.

Because whatever you believe about what Gulf Coast residents "needed or wanted to hear"....
that would be your rendition, and to me that ain't exactly golden.

Now, I did see the result of some focus group poll, and they seem to like the speech.

So what makes you right?

35. I'm sure everyone who believes the president can do no wrong
thought the speech was absolutely fabulous. The tens of millions of us who live in the focus group of balanced reality, see lots of room for improvement in regards to his handling and this crisis.

52. You can't be sure about much of anything,
cause you are as imperfect as the rest of us;
not somehow superior and all knowing. Sorry.

and the point is not criticism of this President,
as much as the fact that no one seem to be able to
criticize certain media personalities without
committing a crime involving a bus.

it is the point that some act as though everyone else is above criticism......
as long as they ain't President.

ooooh...KO talked bad about the President.
Ooooh....that means he's under the bus.

Folks need to realize if they can certainly dog out whomever they want,
but they can't start then whining that someone else might get criticized.
It's not like some folks are perfect and above it all, right?

40. The reference to being "thrown under the bus" is because some of you like Obama so much
that you can't bear when someone criticizes him, even when the criticism may be a fair one. When MSNBC was almost the unofficial Obama network during the election and Hillary was trashed on a daily basis by the likes of Matthews and Olbermann, many here thought that they were great and everything they said was to be taken as gospel. Now that they are criticizing Obama they get trashed by those same people. Can you see the irony?

48. Yeah...I don't have any use for folks that consistently bash the President
about everything. You are right there.

And no, if the criticism is fair, and isn't constant, than those are different posters
than the ones I'm thinking of, and y'all know who you are!

But use that strawman......of this sometime constructive criticism bullshit,
like when one decides not to always agree with Rachel, although one can
stress that they respect her and agree with her 95% of the time...
and still, here comes the bus bullshit.

So yeah, I see some irony here. You said it1

79. Probably because the context and content is ignored and the person is attacked
for the very act and audacity to have criticism of a public servant.

The over the top "doneness" over said expression of opinion is petty and childish and generally the actual points are never refuted and if such an attempt is made it still usually comes in the forms of "pony", "never loved him", "I guess you'd rather have McShame/Phailin", or "shut up till you run and win", or the "pragmatism" card is played.
The points themselves are almost always ignored or danced around with some mix of the above themes.

it is having the nerve to say something negative about the opinions of a news commentator

I don't give a poop what they say about news commentators, and I could care less about who is or isn't under the bus. If people want to roll like that, fine.

My issue was: So, we cannot say anything about a politician unless we run for office? Is that was the poster was saying? That's the answer I want to know. Just a clearer explanation, that's all.

56. My pleasure - welcome to DU...
That part about Sec'y Clinton coordinating help from around the world was an especially good idea.

65. Wow. When Obama said people tend to project upon him. He wasn't kidding.
I like Maddow.

67. Tomorrow, I'll be hosting an episode of Countdown in a way that I wish Keith had done last night...

.... two of my cats will play the roles of Tweety and Fineman. ..... I'll even have the third one play O'Donnell.

One of the cats, long ago, threw my Obama Chia head on the floor and smashed it to bits .... he's custom suited for the role.

69. And i'll follow up with an episode of me portraying the way that I wish you would have played Keith.
HINT: If you repeatedly use "you...sir..." with heavy inflection in your role-play, that will make mine much easier.

81. Only with some here.
The rest of us like her just fine, even when she says something we may disagree with.

82. Yeah, Rachel is awesome - great investigative reporting and explanations...
...that people understand. I think her "Fake President Obama" speech was her way of ranting, not entirely serious. Some great ideas though.

83. Hey I would vote for her for fake President!
I liked a whole LOT of her ideas -- bold, decisive, forward thinking -- exactly what we need right now.

85. The speech reminded of the Peggy Lee song -- "Is that all there is?"
For whatever reason that I don't understand, President Obama does not seem to relate to this crisis in a personal and visceral way. I knew he did not get it when he finally showed up in LA the first time about 2-3 weeks in. He said that "thousands" would be affected by this crisis.

There will be oil in Panama City Beach by tomorrow or Saturday. 58 days after Day One, there is boom, no berms and not one skimmer in sight. That is a fact.
