My reponse to the President's speech: CALL YOUR SENATORS!!!
Call and email over and over again until the Senate passes the energy bill.

It's clear that President Obama is now going to fight for it this year - but, as Senator Kerry has said, they don't have the votes yet.

THAT'S WHERE WE COME IN!

9. Is it coal and nuclear or wind and solar?
It seems we have fallen for this before, he talks a great game about renewables but then changes over to coal and nuclear when its time to write the policy. So here he is again and all we heard was solar and wind but when the football gets pulled away from us again you will find his energy plan filled with the same old coal and nuclear handouts.

11. That's also where we come in...

There's been talk about changing those sections in light of this disaster and the new will to get this done - but we're going to have to let them know what we expect. I told my coal Senator's office last week that I don't want to hear about a myth called "clean coal" and that any Senator buying into that will be replaced.

This is our chance! I've been tough on the prez because I think he has often talked one game and played another - but lessons come with hard times and we ALL have to make something good come out of this unspeakable disaster and overwhelming heartbreak.

21. I'm very hesitant to trust him anymore
Obama is an expert at getting us progressives to believe in him and then selling us out at the first chance he gets. The wars, the Bush people he kept on, the bailouts for the rich while he thumbed his nose at EFCA and DADT, the lie about never campaigning on the public option, the "I'm a new democrat" stuff, etc etc etc etc etc ad infinitum. The only promise he has kept so far is the one I was hoping he wouldn't keep in Afghanistan.

Instead of wasting our energy working with a guy who doesn't like us and doesn't have a clue what we are on about, we should be lining up someone to challenge him from the left in 2012. I know you want to make something good come out of this.....but maybe a REAL dem in 2012 is a more logical choice than hoping a proven liar will change his ways.

PS- Enjoy that totally safe and poison-free seafood from the gulf! (He just can't help himself with the lies.)

23. I don't trust him at this point either - but we can't leave it up to him...
If progressives don't use this moment to get something done on energy/climate, we're wasting an opportunity the way he's been wasting opportunities.

That doesn't mean we can't run someone else in 2012 - if he's gaming us on this one, he should be primaried. Either way, I'm fighting for the environment and the next generation, not for Obama or any other politician. (I won't be doing it through his organization - quit that long ago.)

Edited on Tue Jun-15-10 08:09 PM by ProSense
A Message from the President to OFA Supporters: "Stand with me in backing clean energy"

Here is the call to action

Add your name as a strong supporter of comprehensive energy and climate reform:

I stand with President Obama to pave the way for a clean-energy future that:

  • Combats climate change;

  • Creates a new economy powered by green jobs; and

  • Ends our dependence on foreign oil.

16. My senators are in bed with the Big Oil, unfortunately
So I will call senators in other states.

"Both Senator Blanche Lincoln and Senator Mark Pryor decided to stand up for Big Oil and ignore the undeniable link between America’s addiction to oil and the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history. Together, they stood with Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski in an attempt to gut the Clean Air Act, and let the nation’s biggest polluters off the hook. This misguided bailout of the oil companies would have meant hundreds of millions of dollars for them, and would have left all of us holding the bag. Fortunately, even with Lincoln and Pryor’s egregious vote, the measure failed."

How can they hear what the people in their right minds are saying.

Why do Republican Senators get a pass? I don't get it.

...has come out for or against the bill - I'm making it clear that it needs to happen NOW and that it must include a PRICE ON CARBON.

I'll keep calling back until we can count on them.
