The mills of the gods grind slowly . . . we killed for oil and we may be killed by oil
No one will ever convince me that the Iraq War was anything but a pre-emptive resource war on behalf of Cheney and the oil companies.

How many deaths?

And now the same destructive greed leads us into poisoning our own waters, killing the fish and the fowl and wrecking economic havoc when the people in charge, the "regulators", look the other way in order to facilitate the short cuts, the negligence, the death and the destruction.

God help us.

Don't know why he would want to.

2. Saddam would have always sold Iraqi oil
I figure the war was Junior and Darth's revenge against Iraq for the plot to try to kill Bush the Elder when he went to Kuwait. Of course, that was for the Gulf War, and I believe that war was pretty much for oil.

6. Saddam begged and pleaded and did just about everything he could to avoid invasion.
Cheney*, Bush*, Rumsfeld and Rice would have none of it. And the ol "revenge against Iraq for the Plot to try and kill Bush the Elder" canard was nothing but alibi and smokescreen. Iraq was gong to be invaded, come hell or high water.

7. sell oil yes, from the Iraqi national oil company
remember the news media in the USA UK and France trying to blow smoke up our asses the day they said it was a great advance for the Iraqi people that their public oil company was being privatized and sold to multinationals.....that is why they killed saddam, to de nationalize the Iraqi public oil company.

9. Bingo!
The problem was that Saddam wouldn't tow the OPEC line when it came to pricing. They couldn't control him, so he had to go.

5. The Iraq War was, and continues to be, a pre-emptive resource war. The evidence is overwhelming.
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 06:33 AM by Raster
Cheney* and Bush* slithered into office with the full intent of invading Iraq. And unfortunately, there is more than enough evidence to support that assertion. All they needed was a good excuse--and it really didn't even need to be a valid excuse, just something to terrorize the American populace and allow the vipers to have their way.

"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event––like a new Pearl Harbor".

8. not about resources, about public or private ownership of resources
Iraqi oil was public owned, now it is private, that was the true goal of the war. Saddam would have sold his oil on the world market anyways....just the profits would have gone to the Iraqi people and not to private companies as it is now.

10. Exactly. Control of the resources. The US doesn't so much want Iraqi oil...

But we do want to control who gets access to it. Kind of a petro-carbon insurance policy.

14. No, *they* killed for oil, and now *they* are killing *us* with oil.
I'm not about to accept the guilt for greedy, murderous assholes I've spent my life fighting against.
