An internal poll conducted by former World Wrestling Entertainment Executive Linda McMahon (R) showed Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D) leading by 13 points with five months to go in their Senate matchup.
McMahon's poll, which was conducted June 1-3 by Moore Information, showed her taking 38 percent of the general election vote to Blumenthal's 51 percent. The survey of 600 registered Connecticut voters had a margin of error of 4 percent.
Those numbers are similar to a survey conducted by Blumenthal's camp in late May which showed the attorney general up by 15 points in a general election matchup. That poll was taken in the wake of a media flap over Blumenthal's past comments about military service during the Vietnam War.
Interestingly, both internal campaign polls show a much closer race than public polling that has recently been released on the Connecticut contest. A Rasmussen poll that was taken about the same time as Blumenthal's poll showed the attorney general leading by 23 points while a Quinnipiac University poll that was also conducted in late May showed Blumenthal's ahead by 25 points.
