19. Actually that makes me feel better that she is filthy rich

because she is less likely to steal tax payer money,
ask for money in return for appointing a senator (ala Blago)
or find cash in her freezer.

If she wants to blow $160 million on a job that pays $160k,
that is her money and her choice. I have no problem with rich
people running for office. In fact the top three wealthiest
senators are Democrats: John Kerry of Massachusetts, with a net worth
of at least $164 million; Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, with a net worth of
at least $111 million, and John "Jay" Rockefeller of West Virginia,
with an estimated net worth of at least $82 million.

This is America. People are free to make money and free to spend as
foolishly as they wish. But just spending a lot of money does not
guarantee elections. Otherwise Mitt Romney would have been the 44th president.

4. Brown's strategy of not spending a lot of money during the primary turned out to be correct
he will need all he can get for the general election.

5. California media outlets
can use the money that she and Fiorina are going to piss away on failure. It's a way of giving back the money that was taken by eBay and HP.

6. She's going to spend twice as much as Kerry spent in the 2004 presidential election.
Bush and Kerry both took public financing in the general election and received $75 million each. Jerry Brown needs to hit Meg Whitman over the head with this fact. Repeatedly.

16. Sorry, you are right.
All just to be Governor, not even the Senate. Still stuns me, the amount.
Here in CT, Linda McMahon has spent about $16 million so far in the CT Senate primaries but that pales in comparison to Whitman.

12. Good campaign theme: "Why is Meg Whitman spending $175 million for a job that pays only $175,000?"
Because she plans on getting all that back, with interest, if she becomes Governor.

The last time California was near the top in the nation in schools and quality of life, Jerry Brown was the Governor.

Since then, a series of Republican governors have done little more than put the state further into debt. Another Republican will be more of the same.

17. to be honest...
if Brown loses, it's because very few Dems were even interested... a few tired hacks and lifetime pol's. Fresh, new progressive blood would have been nice.
