1. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that sabotage is in play, so...
this is an absolute crazy thought, right?

12. Not necessarily..
could just be the culmination of decades of deregulation, lax oversight and industry pressure to cut costs resulting in cut corners. Sort of like how we're now seeing a global financial melt down that's the result of the same types of forces. Human greed and laziness.

4. Here's an actual media report on the one in NW PA
From the Philly Inquirer:

Gas spews from N.W. Pa. well rupture
By Amy Worden

Inquirer Harrisburg Bureau

HARRISBURG - Natural gas and polluted wastewater blasted out of a well in Northwestern Pennsylvania for 16 hours before being contained Friday in what officials say was the state's most alarming drilling-related accident in recent years.
No injuries were reported and no fire broke out, a grave risk with large amounts of airborne natural gas.

The well ruptured at 8 p.m. Thursday, sending a gas plume 75 feet into the air and wastewater cascading into the ground just as the gas contractor was preparing to begin production at the well, the officials said.

The accident happened as EOG Resources Inc. of Houston was preparing to start production at a deep well in the Marcellus Shale, the rich gas reserve underlying most of the state. The site is on private land at the edge of the Moshannon State Forest. The nearest house is more than a mile away.

9. WV - Sound familiar? Drilling contractor had repeated violations
The Texas company drilling the Marshall County, W.Va., natural gas well that blew up early this morning has been repeated cited and fined by federal inspectors for workplace safety violations.

Fort Worth-based Union Drilling Inc. has been fined more than $350,000 by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration over the last five years, according to records in OSHA’s online database of inspections.

Union Drilling has been fined more than $350,000 by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration over the last five years, according to OSHA records. The company paid just more than $226,000 of those fines, with the figures being reduced, mostly through informal settlements with OSHA, the records show.

Following inspections in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and four other states, Union Drilling has been cited for repeated violations of OSHA’s “general duty clause,” which required companies to provide employees with a workplace free of hazards. OSHA inspectors have also cited Union Drilling for repeat violations of federal standards that require protective guards around open holes.

13. No. EOG owns PA and EPD owns Texas
ZeroHedge reported on it earlier. EOM (formerly Enron Oil & Gas Co) owns the PA one and EPD Owns Texas

They are now saying that the TX one was caused by a telcom crew who dug into the gas line.

14. were gas explosions commonly reported a few months ago?
I really don't know. I'm wondering if it is kind of like shark attacks or small plane crashes -- there are periods when they all seem to get reported and other periods where the media ignores them all.

17. no. and you're right...its typical media piling on
the "story" of the week or month. After a while, these sorts of incidents will stop making the news (or at least the headlines) unless there is "good" video of them.

18. We are witnessing a corporate apocalypse
Actually we are witnessing a warm up to the corporate apocalypse. The real corporate apocalypse begins when the corporate money starts to flow into political campaigns thanks to the RW supreme court.
