Simmons to Drop Out of Senate Race
It will be official tomorrow, but Eyewitness News has learned former congressman Rob Simmons will drop out of the race for the U.S. Senate, tomorrow.

A source with knowledge of the Simmons campaign told me Simmons has decided to end his campaign and will make the announcement tomorrow in New London.

A spokesman for the campaign told me ” he is on a short leash with this one” and couldn’t say anything.

This comes three days after Simmons lost the party endorsement to rival Republican Linda McMahon at the GOP convention.

1. what this tells me is that Simmons simply does not have the funding
to run against McMahon. She has bought the candidacy. And now she's trying to buy the election.

I trust that my fellow nutmeggers will have the good sense to elect a good and honorable man, Dick Blumenthal, to serve them as the next Senator from CT, just as he has faithfully served them as the state's Attorney General.

2. This will be interesting
Even with the NYT hit, Blumenthal is the one with a three decade, unassailable career. She has a ton of money. I would be willing to guess that the money not with standing, there is so much that is undesirable between her and her husband, that when it comes down to it, she has to lose.

I hope all the Democrats get strongly behind Blumenthal. (I really think the Alpert attack last week - likely an effort to get 15% - was far over the top.

She has spent $16.5million of her own money. There is no way he can compete with that.

4. Us Nutmeggers have a clear choice. Someone buying the seat
or someone earning the seat through years of service.

By the way, I always wanted to know what a nutmeg actually was.
