To those who say there's no difference between having Dems or Repubs in charge of the gov't
The repeal of DADT (if it occurs), disproves your assertions.

The repeal needed a Democratic congress (both houses) and a Democratic President in order to even stand a chance.

If Repubs controlled even ONE branch of Congress, the repeal would be doomed.

Of course, the real heroes of the DADT repeal are the gay and lesbian soldiers who kept fighting for and defending a country they love, despite being denied full citizenship. And the civilians who relentlessly pressured, both politically and financially, a recalcitrant Democratic party into finally doing the right thing.

The Democratic party is very flawed, no doubt, but it's the party that occasionally and sporadically responds to our demands, and as such, it's our only access to real power and real change.

1. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I could've sworn you've been one of those people at times

Maybe quit working so hard to diminish the President and this congress? We need them to stay in the majority.

Issues like DADT prove that.

Chopping down this President repeatedly, even if you have a valid point, doesn't do anything but help the GOP in the long run.

9. Yes.. of course... you've never posted anything that could be construed as
bashing this President or this Democratic congress. What was I thinking?

:eyes:

You're going to honestly say you have never had a post bashing this President as "more of the same?"

Do I have to pull out the links?

13. I don't assert that there is no difference between parties
I vote Democratic because there IS a difference and I want us to control the Supreme Court, amongst other things.

Which is what the OP is about.

Your little harangue about "Obama bashing" is YOUR red herring and has nothing to do with the point I'm making.

4. But apparently pushing him does
The White House is being pushed here. Actually, trapped between two sides. If we don't push, the other side will prevail. It's not so much "chopping him down" as "holding his feet to the fire".

6. You're mistaken.
Ruggerson is not part of that crowd and is responsible in criticizing Obama.

5. I'm actively readying myself for a Tea-Party Republican President in 2012...
Edited on Mon May-24-10 08:20 PM by FrenchieCat
it's not like we didn't actively earn it.
Some folks have been, in fact, passionately working extra hard and with overtime at it.
I think they should reap what they have sowed and and so if they burn the whole house down,
cause they were sooo busy keeping someone's feet to the fire,
it's only fair to see exactly where all of that passion that they have exerted
so persistenly and venominously will take them in a long run.
That will be almost as interesting as having had the opportunity to experience the first African-American President,
even if he is a one termer.

11. True.....
But hey.....who are we to get in front of a dital wave?

For 30 years, government being made small has been the motto,
hell, that even was Clinton's thing......and many have voted accordingly.
So now we have a limited government,
with limited capabilities, everyone is screaming bloody murder because
we don't have a super government to swoop up and kiss everyone's booboos away.

Since it appears that Americans can't make up their fucking minds,
I say a Pox on both houses,
and everyone in them!

15. No offense, but if something good to say is the goal
you have not exactly been providing that either. You have been posting 'let the house burn'. You have nothing but focused, constant, unyielding criticism of your fellow Democrats. When is it that you post all of this good stuff? Seems to me you are always whining about what others say and do, making a big stink that they are not as you'd have them be. That is the theme. I don't get it.
You say you are preparing for GOP victory in 2012, while I assume Obama will win easily. I would also note that there is an important election this very year. California Democrats have their work cut out for them. So worry about 2012 in December, please, and rather than envisioning the house burning down, why not work to elect Democrats in and from California?

10. There's a fine line between "hold someone's feet to the fire" and "burning someone at the stake"

So many on DU think they're doing the former, when they are in fact doing the latter.

You see it in post after post about the Gulf of Mexico disaster.

They're trying to burn this presidency down, even as they deny that is their goal.

14. Of course Democrats are better, that is why we are Democrats
But to get here took, as you say, heroic efforts on the part of some, long slogging work on the part of others, and constant pressure on the powers that be.
If we get it done, it proves we need elected Democrats, as well as active, insistent voters.
