Supreme Court is the ONE reason we have to stick with Obama.
Can you all imagine if John McCain had these last two court picks? There will probably be another one next year. I believe Kagan will be a liberal voice on the court. Many of the previous stands that she has taken were on behalf of policy that she did not make.

Sotomayor was a solid pick.

I do not know about you all, I would rather have Obama making these picks than some right winger. Had McCain won we would have a 7-2 court instead of a 5-4 court. When Gindburg retires it would have ended up an 8-1 court.

The gay community needs to remember that the marriage issue is going to be decided by the Supreme Court. I am convinced that Obama's picks are on your side when ti comes to marriage.

2. We have some "progressives" who vow to vote 3rd party in 2012
because Obama has not given them everything they have dreamed of.

4. If McCain was imcompetent enough to put Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the nuclear football...
...I think its pretty safe to say we don't want him hiring anyone important for ANYTHING.

5. The gay community knows exactly what to remember
and we never forget, so save your sage wisdom. Obama himself is opposed to equal marriage rights so why you are so sure his Court picks support it would be a mystery, except your sort if typical of the apologists. I do not trust Obama, because he is prejudiced against my family, and claims we are not 'Sanctified' like his kind of people. I do not trust those who hold bigotry against me, nor those who come seeking support for those who hold bigotry against me.
But thanks for asking!

6. What One Believes Personally...
and what one sees as a matter of law are not always the same.

It is galling that so many either believe or for political reasons are willing to claim they believe that consenting shouldn't have the right to marry just because they happen to be the same gender (I'm not sure which is worse). However, I think you can at least reason with some of these people. The big question is really whether one believes it is a matter of choice or nature. If one admits that it is a matter of nature, then you could ask why they shouldn't be entitled to the protections guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment. An open minded person who recognizes the Constitution as a living document would be more inclined to go along with this argument and realize that restrictions on same-sex marriage are discrimination. A person who sees being gay as a choice and takes a limited, narrow view of our Constitution would be more likely to uphold those discriminatory laws.

And I don't necessarily think President Obama is opposed to the equal rights - I think he's okay with civil unions (just don't call it marriage). I think saying "marriage is between a man and a woman, but I support civil unions" is trying to have it both ways. Pragmatically speaking, Obama's personal views on this are less important than his perspective of the Constitution. I'm not trying to minimize the insult, only to look at the practical side of things.

8. Had Obama come out in support of gay marriage he would have lost the election.
Do you have any idea what a delicate issue this is? Did you see what happened to Bill Clinton when he began to lift the ban on gays in the military right after he took office?

The nation is slowly coming around and we are miles further along now than we were as recently as 1993. Had Obama come out in support for gay mariage he would have lost the elction.

7. I definitely don't want Republicans making SCOTUS picks
but I do wish President Obama would have made a SOLID liberal pick for the Stevens replacement, ie; Harold Koh, Pamela Karlan, Kathleen Sullivan, Diane Wood....I just can't get that excited about Kagan when they were some excellent liberal choices out there...

9. How do you know Kagen will not be a liberal justice?
Did anyone think David Souter was going to be a liberal justice? What about Earl Warren?

10. Kagan very well may turn out to be a good liberal vote
but were not 100% sure..

As far as Souter, that was a Bush 41 pick, they THOUGHT he was going to be a realiable conservative vote, Kerry & Kennedy voted against him, i just don't want Kagan to be Bush's Souter...

but that is certainly one of them.
