Sorry Mr. President, we're not so easily fooled anymore. Your rhetoric will be meaningful when...
...you put someone we can trust in charge and walk away from the cynical politics of offshore drilling.

NINE REASONS NOT TO TRUST KEN SALAZAR

"Mr. Salazar has consistently supported the interests of the oil and gas industry above the need for conservation and alternative energy sources. He maintains very strong industry ties. He voted (like Obama) for the appalling 2005 energy bill. He voted to end the offshore drilling moratorium; he voted against the repeal of tax breaks for Exxon-Mobil and voted against increasing Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards."

1. You got a shout out from the President during today's remarks...
Edited on Fri May-14-10 02:25 PM by Clio the Leo
Now, from the day he took office as Interior Secretary, Ken Salazar has recognized these problems and he’s worked to solve them. Oftentimes he has been slammed by the industry, suggesting that somehow these necessary reforms would impede economic growth. Well, as I just told Ken, we are going to keep on going to do what needs to be done.

Now, granted, what you're claiming and what the industry is claiming are diametrically opposed (which is kind of funny if you think about it) ...... But the President is tired of the finger pointing and, quite frankly, so are most of the rest of us.

21. My first instincts about Obama told me he was corporate...
But I was fooled enough to work for him - or maybe just not keen on the idea that Clinton might go to war with Iran.

His cabinet choices woke me up pretty fast - now I watch more closely.

22. Obama is no dummy
He is not going to bite the hand that feeds him.
Obama has received more money from BP than any other politician.
Politicians never bite those golden hands.
He is no different than any other successful politician.

23. "he began to clean up
the scandal-plagued Minerals Management Service."

And yet:

...the minerals agency since January 2009 has approved at least three huge lease sales, 103 seismic blasting projects and 346 drilling plans. Agency records also show that permission for those projects and plans was granted without getting the permits required under federal law.

“M.M.S. has given up any pretense of regulating the offshore oil industry,” said Kierán Suckling, director of the Center for Biological Diversity, an environmental advocacy group in Tucson, which filed notice of intent to sue the agency over its noncompliance with federal law concerning endangered species. “The agency seems to think its mission is to help the oil industry evade environmental laws.”
