Bill Clinton unintentionally explains how Obama's Asian "free trade" pact would be another disaster
Edited on Sun Nov-15-09 11:45 AM by brentspeak
...a disaster for all but Wall Street, however:

"Many Americans are still worried that this agreement will
move jobs south of the border because they've seen jobs move south of
the border and because they know that there are still great
differences in the wage rates. There have been 19 serious economic
studies of NAFTA by liberals and conservatives alike; 18 of them have
concluded that there will be no job loss."

from http://www.historycentral.com/Documents/Clinton/SigningNaFTA.html">President Clinton's 1993 NAFTA signing statement

You got that? "No job loss". President Clinton said so.

The news from this past week:

http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2009/11/05/mexico-beats-china-in-american-assembly-for-export-factories/">Mexico beats China in American assembly for export factories

American businesses are http://money.cnn.com/2009/11/03/news/international/US_dumps_china_for_mexico/index.htm?postversion=2009110311">setting up shop in Mexico instead of China. China, which was the number one location for manufacture of goods bound for the U.S., has fallen into third place. Mexico is now number one, followed by India.

(snip)

U.S. Fortune 500 companies are setting up shop in Mexico to manufacture automobiles, electronics, apparel, and many other goods designed for the export market. Chinese companies are even moving to Mexico to take advantage of the benefits of NAFTA.

So, now when you look at the manufacturers' label, you'll no doubt see more of "Made in Mexico."

But don't worry - despite falling to Number Three on the cheap-labor favorite destination chart, China still is a http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601080&sid=aN4Brm9JM3_8&refer=asia">popular choice for American companies to move jobs to.

And you thought all those millions of dollars Wall Street contributed to Obama's campaign were out of the goodness of their hearts...

2. What a bogus headline. What a surprise coming from you. And yes,
everything has remained static since 1993, cause you say so. :eyes:

3. FACT: No pact is signed & the WH has been criticized for "protectionism" by Mexico's Prez recently.

President Barack Obama said in Tokyo the U.S. will restart talks to potentially take part in a regional Asia-Pacific free trade agreement known as the Trans Pacific Partnership that currently includes Singapore, Brunei, Chile and New Zealand... Mr. Obama will fly to Singapore later Saturday for an APEC leaders summit. Ahead of his arrival, Mexican President Felipe Calderon criticized the Obama administration for failing to open its borders to Mexican trucks as required under the North American Free Trade agreement.

"Protectionism is killing North American companies," Mr. Calderon said
at a business event on the sidelines of the APEC summit. "The American government is facing political pressure that has not been counteracted."

5. Yeah, not opening the borders to broken-down Mexican trucks is really "killing" N.American co's
There's so much "protectionism" that U.S. companies are having absolutely no problem relocating their manufacturing facilities to Mexico to their hearts' content.

10. Nice try. I was pointing out the Mexican president's own words, which denied your spin.

I also pointed out the fact that there is no signed pact nor has there been any renewed talks yet, despite your disingenuous OP implying otherwise.

..a member of the very small group that benefits from slave labor and no environmental protections.
