Every Cloud has a silver lining.. even the oil spill in the gulf
Corporations cannot be trusted to police anything.

Apparently, there was supposed to be some kind of capping device that would come into play if such a disaster happened.

From what I have read so far.. BP did not have that on the rig that toppled, or it completely failed.

If this is what it takes to wake up those who are tuned into right wing media 24/7 with its drill baby drill mantra.. (you wonder why the republicans are being a little quiet right now, and not taking advantage of this? not me, they are up to their ears in this)

I am glad to see the President step back and do a rethink on drilling off shore.

Because these corporations cannot be trusted to do what they say they will do.

God only knows how this is going to be cleaned up.. I hope we are not going to see a Valdez type of scenario..

But I think congress needs to have hearings and put some people on the spot.

They did it with Toyota.. Big Oil, next in line.

1. Problem is, Obama's endorsement of "exploration" gave the "Drillers" political cover...
If he had held back or stuck to his original position, he would have come up smelling like a rose.

Another good reason to do what is right, rather than what some advisers or donors think is politically expedient.

3. Yes, Obama's integrity would be shining now--if only
Oil never was the good path.

5. He would so have appeared the wise one

For doing the right thing and NEVER EVER saying that he would be willing to open our shores (after a sane moratorium) and risk this kind of disaster.

Big missed opportunity, and all he needs to do is lead WITH INTEGRITY. On this issue, he is leading like a typical corporatist, and corporatists are never visionary about anything except their own wallets (read political capital for O).

6. Let me try to explain it clearly.
If Obama had kept to his original, environmentally sound position on this issue, he would have been vindicated rather than compromised by the event that is transpiring.

Instead, while the idiocy of the "drill baby drill" agitators has been exposed for the irresponsible, ignorant posturing that it is, the administration can't benefit fully from the contrast, since its own policy of favoring expanded exploration and drilling possibilities has muddied the contrast between the two parties.

In other words, the oil sticks to both sides, and an opportunity for real leadership is lost, or at least compromised (once again).

Does this make sense now?
