Lamar Alexander on Senate floor shilling for big banks and against intrusive consumer protection!
Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 09:15 AM by flpoljunkie
They are naked corporatists! Alexander whined about student loans having to go through Washington--a blatant lie! And, how bidness don't need no consumer protection mucking things up and keeping folks from getting their loans--payday loans, no doubt. The Republicans are big water carriers for the payday loan shysters, as well. Congress ought to limit payday loan interest rates for everyone--like they did for members of our armed services (who were being ripped off big time by these loan sharks).

Alexander in a mocking tone: 'We are from Washington and we are here to protect you.' Damn straight! And, you in Washington have done a piss poor job of it, Senator!

Alexander's finished now.

There will be another cloture vote at 12:30. The Dems will have a press conference at 11:30. The cloture vote is expected to fall short yet once again.

1. BOO!!! Uncle Lamar!!! Boo!!!
... no, he's not actually my uncle, but having grown up in TN with the man as governor, I think I'm required to call him that ... this IS the south ya know.

I really should apologize to all of America. He hasn't been the same since the Dr.s changed his meds.

2. They appeal to average Americans by talking about Intrusive Government.
Americans reflexively recoil from Government Intrusion.

What Democrat is going to counter and explain the Consumer
Protection is for the Little Guy and the Republicans
are trying to dupe them.

I fear our Democrats are so averse to using anything like
"Little guy" (might sound populist) that they will permit
the Republicans to have their way.

6. Republicans and their Dem sidekick Ben Nelson holding firm to try and weaken consumer protection!
Is Ben Nelson still claiming he can't vote for cloture until he's read the bill.

What's stopping you, Ben?
