What is this about?
Woman running against Senator Reed of Nevada says we should use the barter system for health care. If you don't have health insurance than you should give the doc chickens or paint this house. It worked in the olden days. She is 10 points ahead. Didn't anyone see this? It was on Chris Mathews, Keith, Ed and the Rachel Maddow show. She didn't back down either. Being a republican damages your brain.

1. Lots of people do ask the doc to reduce rates
It's not a solution to health care, but equating her remarks to trading for chickens kind of makes Democrats look elitist and out of touch. There was a way to show how stupid her comment is, because you can't negotiate a $100,000 surgery to anything affordable... ever. It's always best to hit at the place of highest truth and that wasn't done here. But maybe it will draw enough attention to her comment to get to the independent voter, who will think it through. We'll see.

3. Yes, but that's called "negotiating" not "bartering," which is what she said.

Helloooo?!!? She's the one that's suggesting bringing a chicken.

I suggest you brush up on this story.

7. Yep, you're right
They really are talking about bartering. Unbelievable. I've known one rural doc who gave care without worrying about income, at all, and would have accepted some sort of token help that she needed. But that is a very rare situation and certainly wouldn't work for anything more than a cold or some kind of routine care.

8. And bartering doesn't exist in 2010 unless you count Craigslist.
Bartering for health services...not going to happen. If I asked my endocrinologist if I could paint their house in exchange for a checkup they would look at me like I had 4 eyes.

She meant to say "bartending".

11. The only one who looks elitist and out of touch...
...is Ms. Lowden.

Statements like hers are screaming out for ridicule. The fact that she chose to repeat her suggestion rather than to backtrack, only makes it that much better.

Here we are in Nevada with Harry Reid looking to have a tough fight against this woman, and she hands us a ready-made bit of buffoonery. What, you are suggesting we don't take advantage of it? Okay in fairness, you are suggesting a rational response, rather than straight out ridicule.

Given that most of the population seems to pay attention to politics only in sound bites, I believe your suggested tactic is the wrong one. In my view, the more people we get out there with chicken costumes, the more rubber chickens we send her -- whatever it takes to get her ridiculous position out there in the open, the better. It does draw attention to her comments, and her comments are OUTRAGEOUS and STOOPID, not to mention ELITIST and OUT OF TOUCH, and the more we make fun of her the better as far as I am concerned.

16. I didn't think she initially said "chickens"
I have since been informed that she did, so I now vote whole hog, er, chicken.

Maybe someone should buy chickensue.com and really do it up right.

2. I saw her, unbelievable what a nut case. I saw two cars at
a restaurant just a few minutes ago, they had Tea Party, NRA, anti abortion, Christian and anti Obama plastered all over the back of their cars. While in the restaurant I looked around at the people and just took a guess at who the cars belonged to. After finishing I went out and the cars where still sitting there. So I sat there and watched to see who the cars belonged to. The two people that I thought looked like Teabaggers were the ones. A man got in one car he had a huge belly hanging over his belt, a cheap looking red rug on and I would guess to be of Medicare age. A women got in the other car also Medicare age, a skinny women with scraggly hair and missing half her teeth. That is the peole that crazy Lowden women appeals to I guess.

6. We should start a campaign to flood her office with donations
in the form of bartered items. I'm sure I have some old junk to send her. Meanwhile I'm sure the doctors can send their new chickens to the student loan collectors.

Is that the polls showing her ahead were all completed before she made the chicken bartering remarks.

10. There have been a few threads about it...
...the numbers showing her up by 10 points are a few days old. Given that she chose to double down rather than backtrack her remarks, I predict those numbers will change shortly.

Pretty much everyone, as far as I can tell, is laughing at her over this.

14. I wonder how many doctors are supporting her.
Doctors don't need no stinking money. They'd much rather be paid in chickens.

that's usually the end of them.
