I just wanted to get a friggen haircut!
The dog was getting a bit shaggy so went down to get a haircut. One of those chain places where you get a decent trim. I walk in and some lady is getting her hair washed and then starts in. "This Obama guy is a Bullshit Liar, ... he is a Socialist, Health care is going to bankrupt us all.." So I sit down in the chair and she utters "It is because stupid people voted for Obama!" At that point I stop the guy cutting my hair and say "Lady, you have the right to your opinion, but when you make general statements that "stupid people voted for Obama" you are calling me stupid. Facts show that higher educated people voted for Obama, and in fact Kerry, so rather than listening to YOUR bullshit I would like to get a haircut. She responded that it was a free Country, her grandfather fought for the US, as did her brothers, blah blah. Great I say, so did relatives of mine, and a lot of other people you would label as Socialist or Communists, so again keep your generalizations to yourself or be prepared to get called out. She finally shut the hell up, but not before muttering something, the only part I could make out was.. "we are at war..." I think it had to do with the Country being at war, as I left I made a point of saying, "need to get home to see if my big tax refund got deposited.

26. Mine's not betting deposited
My state decided to hold onto it several months, and everyone else's for that matter.

I think I'll call the governor, who's rich, and ask her if she wouldn't mind paying me what the government, under her, owes me.

4. I love how they have the audacity to think that everyone within hearing
range is going to agree with them.... Perhaps it should be pointed out to her and people like her by how much President Obama won by. She does realize I hope how in the minority they are..Hope you got a good haircut..LOL.

7. Good job, rufus! I'm always wondering when
I'm going to run into that again at work. The propaganda is so prevalant and those brainwashed types don't care who they offend.

It's a cool co-op but we get customers from all over in a county that went 55% for mcpalin.

If I want to say something political to a co-worker or friend..I make sure no one is around who would think "President Obama" is a dirty word.

As long as they continue to put out their bullshit and not get challanged on it they go unchecked.

Good Job!

I had to use SNOPES today to refute the Social Security myth.....

10. Just yesterday I ran into a framer w/the same basic attitude...
out here in Nebraska, squealing about "socialism". He shut up instantaneously when I asked how his 2009 F-250, still running in the parking lot w/no one it, was paid for, "that government money you got for letting your land go fallow last year? When was the last time you paid tax on gas, don't tell me you are here buying that beer on 'farm time'...for that matter, why does that beauty out in the lot look like it never saw a field, but has Farm Plates?"

Point is, as long as they get "theirs", the government and all of this "socialism" is fine...but everyone else is a "communist"...:eyes:

12. It's actually changing, and quickly too...
people out here are R's, that's a given, but they are not necessarily stupid. When the reality of the bush years set in, people started talking about reality a lot more; and people are pissed over the way the R's are fouling up everything in Congress.

Might let us go purple in some parts of NE this time around...:D

and not taxed. You never see stories in the media about all the rural tax cheats.

:D

Heads explode around here when I bring up the fact that those who accept subsidies are "welfare cheats" that collect tens/hundreds of thousands from taxpayers, while screaming about the "injustice" of a single parent getting $300 a month and some food stamps to raise kids.

Farming is pretty hard work, but these people have it FAR easier than their revered grandparent farmers. "No welfare during my G'father's time" is the mantra...yet they forget that local people, churches, towns an businesses helped those who were down on their luck...today, most of these people would do little more than kick dust into the graves of their "competitors".

19. That's why I derive a Honda
I have always driven Fords, just a habit I guess. Years back, I was at the dealership to trade in 3 year old Ford on the new model, when someone made a wise asses comment about my John Kerry bumper sticker. The prevailing opinion seemed to be anyone who would vote for John Kerry must be an idiot. Well, even an idiot could realize that voices carry in a near empty showroom. The salesman comes back and I calmly ask for my keys. He hands them to me and says "you don't have to clean it out right now, we have some paperwork to do". I told him , "No we don't, the idiot with the John Kerry sticker is walking out and going down the road". I decided to try a Honda.

Of course, after GWB got done with the economy, I didn't have the luxury of a new car every 3 years, and am still driving the Honda, with the John Kerry sticker still on it.

22. Really?!
So if someone offered you a million dollars a year for the next ten years if you would drive a Ferrari, a Porsche, or even a BMW, you would refuse? Interesting. Here's an observation that might help in the future: We're all whores;we just have different prices.

(but no, I would not pay to maintain the other 2 brands - I'd only consider an exotic sports car)

30. It's a form of Tribalism.
Even when producing a shoddy product, as Ford Motors did for many a year (I will say that the current product line is vastly improved, and could be called one of the best, foreign or domestic), people that are brand loyal stand by the name, ignoring the inferiority of the actual product.

It is an example of the triumph of advertising over reality.

33. why not go to another Ford dealer...
or get the general manager of the dealership involved? Hell, you might have got a couple extras thrown in. Ford employees American union workers- the same type of people that made this country what it is. We have 40 hour work weeks, safer working environments, and two weeks of vacation a year thanks to the blood and sweat of these type of people. Why punish them for the ignorance of a stupid salesman? The UAW is one of the last of the big unions- I would like to see them stick around.

28. Some friends and I went to MoMA yesterday...
...to see the Tim Burton exhibit.
It was fun, although the place was totally packed.

At some point, we stopped for a bathroom break, and the boys and I were waiting for the ladies a few yards from the restrooms. There was a small exhibit of photographs where we were standing, it looked like they were mostly from the Depression. My friend B. and I were both looking at one photo that was like a rural gas station with a sign that said something like "Don't let the rich people at the top rip you off again." (I wish I remembered exactly what it said, and I can't find it on the MoMA website right now. However, that was the sentiment.)

Anyway, I'm looking at this photograph, and this guy and his wife are standing next to me, and he looks at me and says something like "Yeah, exactly like what that Obama is doing now, ripping us all off!"

He was looking at me, and I could tell that he was trying to get a rise out of me. (maybe I look like a liberal?) I looked at my friend, B. who heard what the guy said, and we just both started laughing and laughing. Never said a word to the guy. I saw a frustrated look on his face, and then they walked off.

That's the way we tend to respond to that here in New York. It's not even worth the effort to do more than laugh at them.

(and this does not even address the notion that we were standing in a building built with robber baron money... that's a discussion for another day...)

29. We ARE at war.
Some of us noticed it sooner than others. The insanity that you all are hearing, I noticed from the Clinton impeachment years. They don't reach their conclusions through logic, they reach their conclusion through heritage and legacy. Traditional misunderstandings passed from one generation to the other.
