The short-sightedness of economism.
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 01:34 PM by Writer
Do you believe that every aspect of our political culture is mired in economic influence? Sometimes, in the short span of our lives, certain eras of history lend themselves to this world view. And it has certainly been the case since WW2 and the growth of neo-liberal capitalism.

However, it is, as many other eras in our nation's history, just an era.

Hazy back room deals between politicians and business interests? Sometimes it's true, but sometimes it's no more true than a bunch of dogs playing poker.

These tropes that we've relied upon for decades to criticize and be cynical of our politics are currently seeing a respite. Maybe it's time to toss aside our own cynicism and start looking at our political culture with fresh eyes. It may not last for long, so enjoy it while it lasts.
