Oh oh!!! - Michelle Obama launches solo agenda on Mexico tour

MEXICO CITY - Michelle Obama is on her first official, solo foreign trip as first lady, launching what aides call an international agenda invoking her considerable star power to engage the world's youth.

Mrs. Obama flew into Mexico late Tuesday after stopping in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to view the ruins three months after a massive earthquake killed an estimated 230,000 people and left more than 1 million homeless in the Caribbean nation.

Her visit to the Mexican capital Wednesday and Thursday is also part goodwill tour to highlight relations between the United States and its southern border ally. The first order of business Wednesday is a trip to Los Pinos, the residence of President Felipe Calderon, to meet privately with his wife, Margarita Zavala. The mission to Mexico book-ends Mrs. Obama's leading cause at home, a campaign against child obsesity .

2. Sounds like she does have an agenda and it involves young people...

“My international agenda as first lady is going to focus on speaking to young people because I believe, and so does the president, that in order for this world to meet the challenges that we’ll face it’s going to need this coming generation to know that they are prepared and they are ready to take on this challenge,” Mrs. Obama said aboard the plane on her way to Mexico. “We have to tap into that talent wherever it lives.”

Speaking in a video message that the White House distributed Wednesday morning, Mrs. Obama continued: “My message to the young people is that success and possibility doesn’t know a race, a background, a gender, a socioeconomic class. We are going to need the energy and the passion of every single young person. We are going to have to develop those schools and have those young people believing in their own potential.”

3. I like the work with military families. That's something new to First Ladies. Most have done
kids stuff.

A friend of mine got up close and personal with her at the Pentagon the other day. Well done!
