Parker Raises $230,000 in Bid to Succeed Shadegg
Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker (R) laid down a marker in the GOP primary for Arizona's 3rd district seat, raising more than $230,000 in the first quarter of 2010, his campaign announced Thursday.

Parker is one in a crowded field of Republicans hoping to succeed retiring Rep. John Shadegg Parker switched from the governor's race to the 3rd district contest Jan. 19.

Parker already had a fundraising apparatus up and running as part of his gubernatorial bid, but was not allowed to transfer any funds over from one campaign to another. And adviser Jason Rose said only about 20 percent of his gubernatorial donors crossed over and donated to his congressional campaign, meaning the vast majority of his funds came from new donors.

Money will be a key measuring stick for the GOP contenders, including former state Sens. Pamela Gorman and Jim Waring, former State. Rep. Sam Crump, former Paradise Valley Mayor Ed Winkler, and attorney Ben Quayle, son of former Vice President Dan Quayle. The Republican-leaning district lies in the expensive Phoenix media market.
