Mount Dora doctor tells Obama supporters: Go elsewhere

MOUNT DORA — A doctor who considers the national health-care overhaul to be bad medicine for the country posted a sign on his office door telling patients who voted for President Barack Obama to seek care "elsewhere."

"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."

The sign reads: "If you voted for Obama…seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."

Estella Chatman, 67, of Eustis, whose daughter snapped a photo of the typewritten sign, sent the picture to U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, the Orlando Democrat who riled Republicans last year when he characterized the GOP's idea of health care as, "If you get sick America … Die quickly."

Vote here: Is Dr. Cassell within his rights to want Obama supporters to go elsewhere for care?

Chatman said she heard about the sign from a friend who was referred to Cassell after his physician recently died. She said her friend did not want to speak to a reporter, but was dismayed by Cassell's sign.

"He's going to find another doctor," she said.

1. He's totally within his right.
And he's totally within the right to go bankrupt because of no clients.

22. "Petty" is quite an apt word for reacting to a reform that is, in effect, trivial to his practice.
Perfect word for the man.

I'm not going to criticize a doctor because he doesn't abide by some rules of medicine created in Ancient Greece.

Sorry Dr. Cassell, but we only let democrats use our services. Or say, AAA. Sorry Dr.Cassell, we only tow democrats cars, you'll have to walk! Which is ewxactly needs to happen in this guys case. He needs to see just how many democrats affect his life.

Wanna haircut? Fuck you, you republican piece of shit!

Need your lawn mowed? Kiss my ass.

Your sink is stopped up? Chop a fucking hole in it , asshole!

Thank you mister asshole doctor for alerting me to your political ideology. I will not use your services, and I ask that you use no services provided by dems or the socialist state. You should not be allowed to use the fire dept, police dept, any public roads, the public airwaves, and oh yeah, those socialistic constitutional rights you had....gone! These morans don't think about such things when they make these idiotic statements. And this idiot is a doctor? Probably not for long.

11. Business owners can generally refuse service
Depending on where the doc is in Florida, it may not hurt his business, heck, might even help it.

Still think he's an ass though. Guess he feels that the Hippocratic oath only applies to people that think like him.

"Dr. Cassell only services Republican Penises" should be a protest sign. Yes, it is juvenille and low brow, but he deserves it.

Can he get fined for refusing care?

That seems like a bad business decision, but it's not my business. Ethically questionable as well. I mean I know my dentist hates Sarah Palin, but he doesn't put up signs telling Palin lovers to go elsewhere.

One of the specialists I see has had the now-cliched "don't tread on me" huge flag hanging up on the waiting room walls for over a year now (he's in an office with several other doctors, so I'm not sure ifit belongs to him -- He's also very good at what he does; so I've bit my tongue about it)

Lake County urologist Dr. Jack Cassell has put up a sign on his office door reading, "If you voted for Obama seek urologic care elsewhere." What do you think?

What is your reaction to Dr. Jack Cassell's actions?

Good for him. Obamacare will be a disaster, and we should keep fighting it. (40502 responses)

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 12:10 PM by political_Dem
What this man did is unethical. His lack of morality is the worst part. The best doctors treat anyone regardless of their political or philosophical positions simply because the patient needs help.

What if surgeons acted the way this moron did?

Does this doctor want to be sued for malpractice? It seems like he is begging for it.
