2. +1 That was my first thought!
Government regulation is often the driver for technological breakthroughs. Raising MPG expectations should be done annually, IMO.

20. Actually President Carter had put into motion many energy saving policies over 30 years ago.
Unfortunately, Saint Ronnie rescinded them all.
Here in Virginia, our new republican Governor has a brilliant :sarcasm: idea, he is going to raise the speed limit to 75 mph.

7. Only if the Group is Expanded to Include
larger vehicles like SUVs and full-sized pickups. Otherwise, 10MPG is an awful lot, and the smaller sizes will probably drive customers into non-covered vehicles.

8. It's a step in the right direction, but, like everything else they do, it doesn't
go nearly as far as it could or should. The Chinese are making cars that get 50 miles to the gallon. The CHINESE, for chrissake. Maybe a better idea would be to provide some kind of incentive/reward to any US automakers that can produce a car that gets 50 mpg or more, and have it ready to go into production, within 12 months. It's like the moon launch—at one time, we were at our best when presented with a "bet-you-can't" challenge.

13. We've been living in the dark ages for 8 years.
We've just recently started working our way out. It's taking a bit of time but I'm sure after 8 years of said President, we'll recover.

I will probably never buy another new car, but one never knows.

Fuck those oil producers, anyway...they have spent many years fucking me. (And you)

27. Its a positive to bump this up a few years for sure.
We need to get hardcore on this though. Almost every new vehicle should be a plug in hybrid or diesel within ten years so we can get this up to around 50mpg or better.

28. WTF. Because I wish it were 20 mpg, especially since it is by 2016.
Of course I'm glad we made a start, but it is so small and so far out in the future.

But sure, any move in that direction is appreciated.
