Alabama: Wayne Parker Endorses Brooks in 5th District
Wayne Parker, the 2008 GOP nominee in Alabama's 5th district, announced Wednesday that he is endorsing Madison County Commissioner Mo Brooks in his bid to unseat party-switching Rep. Parker Griffith in the GOP primary.

"I thought this was the best way to support and elect a consistent conservative voice for North Alabama," Parker said in an interview after making the announcement at a morning news conference. "I have endorsed Mo Brooks and asked those who supported me in the past to consider supporting Mo."

Two years ago the National Republican Congressional Committee spent over half a million dollars trying to get Parker elected over Griffith, the Democratic nominee in a highly targeted open-seat race. But since Griffith's party switch in December the national party has embraced Griffith and party leaders have already started to help him raise money for what is shaping up to be a tough primary. That move has outraged some local Tea Party and County Republican groups who have come out strongly against Griffith.

Parker said Wednesday that he considered throwing his hat into the ring again but decided against doing so because he was worried about dividing the anti-Griffith vote in the primary.
