McInnish wants him barred from primary ballot

Having failed to persuade local Republican leaders of the merits of his case, Hugh McInnish is taking his fight against Congressman Parker Griffith to Montgomery.

"What I hope to accomplish is to have him barred from the ballot," said McInnish, who will speak against Griffith before the Alabama Republican Party's candidate committee next month.

The 21-member subcommittee approves candidates for the June 1 primaries. Griffith, who in December left the Democratic Party, has filed to seek re-election in the Republican primary.

But McInnish has labeled him a political impostor and hopes to show Griffith has a liberal record, including support of universal health care and Griffith's support of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., for speaker of the House.
