1. Did a little checking
Real Clear Politics is definitely 'right' leaning and since the right doesn't seem to have any problem twisting the truth or outright lying I wouldn't worry about their poll too much. It seems a little handy that not only did Obama's 'numbers go down' but that it was to a 'new low'.

2. The 'direction of the country' polls went bad around the time of Katrina
Edited on Mon Mar-29-10 06:42 AM by muriel_volestrangler
the list of numbers goes back to June 2005. After Katrina, the numbers were worse than they are now, until about Feb 2009. The optimism of that time has evaporated gradually. Of course, the people who are pessimistic now aren't necessarily all the same ones who were pessimistic under Bush. Some of it will be the economy.

The worst it got was Oct 2008: satisfied with the way things are going in the United States: 7%. Dissatisfied: 91%. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/docs/USAT_Gallup_101408.htm

3. If most polls are showing an upward trend I would be skeptical
of a poll showing a new low.

4. Yes. Real Clear Politics is a Republican site
Did some research, this was from late in the 2008 campaign, couple weeks before the election...

"Pretty much all the election projection Websites like this one show Obama over 270 electoral votes. Even very overtly Republican Websites like Real Clear Politics and Election Projection have Obama at 277 and 364 electoral votes, respectively."

5. It is half owned by Steve Forbes.
RealClearPolitics is an American conservative-leaning political blog, news and polling data aggregator which claims to be non-partisan. It is based in Chicago, Illinois. The site aggregates columns and news stories as well as election related transcripts and videos. The site also carries the most recent poll data, and compiles averages of major political polls on various elections throughout the United States to give a national view of the race.

The site was founded in 2000 by former options trader John McIntyre and former advertising agency account executive Tom Bevan. Forbes Media LLC bought a 51% equity interest in the site in 2007.

6. As I recall, Nate Silver exposed RCP polls as a pro-GOP sham awhile back.

7. Let's see...
... wars in 2 foreign countries still ongoing? Yep.
... Patriot act reupped? Yep.
... economy still blows giant chunks? Yep.
... Only jobs for certain that were "saved or created" happen to be at large investment banks? Yep.
... Health insurance legislation creates massive giveaway to insurance companies in the form of a mandate (who do you think is really going to pay for those health insurance exchanges)? Yep.
... American empire is on the decline? Yep.
... seniors worried about Social Security as baby boomers start to retire? Yep.
... Administration takes about the strongest pro-corporate position possible on IP laws? Yep.
... Administrations for the past 30 years have been spending money like water? Yep.

Gee, I can't imagine why people would be upset. They might not all be upset about the same things, but that doesn't mean they see the country going in a positive direction.

RCP uses averages, so unless math is politically biased, they probably aren't far off the mark.

12. Actually, it only looks the way that you describe it from a very far and fuzzy distance.....
while reality tells a different story.

In 15 short months,

War in Iraq, started by Bush is winding down....on schedule. Just had an election there that elected a secular leader that will be inclusive in forming a government.

Has, after 7 years, given Afghanistan a clear strategy, and has provided the logistical support to get that done....which is EXACTLY what he'd said he do, and he was elected, so fuck the polls, I want him to do what he said.

The Economy has improved so much since 9/15/08 meltdown that it ain't even funny. When one looks at all and any barometer, the economy is being fixed, albeit slowly, but surely.

As for what jobs were saved, I'm not sure where you are getting stats, but from where I sit, typing on the Internet doesn't mean one is providing any facts, and like the other statements you made, this one isn't backed up with anything.

As for rambling on mandates- http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2009/12/draft_1.html

Seniors worried about SS? Why? They are getting theirs. If they are worried about something, many seem overly worried that there is a black man in office.

American Empire is on a decline (whatever that actually means), but America's reputation has been restored. Bush flushed it down the toilet, and Pres. Obama pulled it out and it is now drying on the line.

There's more, but I don’t have the time.......

What I will say is that people should be tired of being as stupid as they are. They allow the media to lead them around by the nose, failing to make the connection between corporate interests, what those are, and who owns our fucked up media. If they had an ounce of sense, the Teafuckingbaggers would have been out protesting the day the Supreme Court decided who was going to be in the White House....cause that was the day America started fast on a decline. It's just now being restored, but like anything else, it will take time period. Uninformed citizen who don't bother to read anything beyond headlines are the exact ones who allowed things to get so fucked up till it can't be fixed in just a few months. period.

10. Part of the problem that we have is that we don't understand that polls
don't matter, elections do.

Till next election, I want to see Pres. Obama do exactly what it is that he said he'd do,
since that is why he was elected; to get us out of the fucked up pile of shit that Bush
left at the doorstep of the White House.

Fuck the polls! They are commissioned by corporations from corporations and last I checked
corporations have an agenda, and it's less taxes for them and less regulations for them.
They don't give a fuck about anything else.
