OMFG! Geraldo Rivera is supporting the new bill on his show!
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 11:05 PM by zulchzulu
He actually started his show telling Brett Baier that perhaps the coverage has been "too gloomy" and it was classic in the two-shot seeing Baier wincing with surprise that he was essentially being reprimanded for being an asshat.

I have no idea how the rest of the show will go, since I'm going to bed, but Rivera actually was praising Obama for his statement and the efforts that were made. He mentioned the pre-existing conditions clause was enough reason for Americans to feel good about the bill.

I was indeed surprised.

6. It looked like Baier was going to call Daddy Murdoch after the toss off
It hopefully will be featured on Colbert or Daily Show... just as enjoyable as Stupak pissing on the Repigs.

5. Rivera has always had his heart in the right place.
Of course when you get paid millions to be a tool, it is easy to separate mouth from heart.

7. Rivera has never been a traditional neocon conservative. Not so bright but
not totally a Sean Hannity type either.

9. At the end of his show...
"I may be in a minority around here, but I hope it works out!" The look on Kimberly G. and the other 2 people on his show gave incredulous looks as he was fading to black. I guess Geraldo and Shepard need new employers.

10. I thought Geraldo was (or at least used to be) a pretty outspoken liberal
He spouted the party-line at FOX, but I never got the impression he was a right-winger. And am I mistaken that pre-FOX he was generally seen as a liberal? (I say this b/c when they hired him, I remember headlines saying "FOX hires outspoken liberal, Geraldo Rivera.")

12. liberal
he's probably the lone liberal on the network.....after combes was ousted.

geraldo brings more of an everyman's perspective...he's prone to go either way but he's compelled by emotion and human experience....probably goes back to his days as an
investigative reporter and human interest show....

i remember him for being so visibly outraged about katrina at bush and the gop...

14. Rivera's career is rooted in liberalism
He is a jerk at times and it seems he is willing to put on any face that will get him a few ratings points, but his career began in NY as an investigative reporter for ABC News' local affiliate where he won an Emmy for his exhaustive and unrelenting coverage of the horrors of treatment of the mentally ill confined to a mental hospital in Staten Island where he sometimes sneaked in and obtained TV footage of patients lying on the floors in excrement, mistreated or not treated at all. It led to reform in NY of treatment and laws in institutions for the mentally ill. So healthcare for the disadvantaged is the very core of his professional life.
