according to all of the polls back then, but Obama is "arrogant" for trying to get the HCR bill passed even though (Repubs. claim) "the people don't want it." Not to mention, Bush sent more troops to die & kill, while Obama is trying to improve the quality of tens of millions of people's lives. Why the double standard? Hmmmmm...

4. As I (seem to) recall,
w's surge didn't start until after the 2006 elections, although calls for more troops had been going on for some time (like even before the invasion).

And I suspect the timing wasn't exactly coincidental. Moreover, as the lamest of ducks, w had little to lose.

7. Karl Rove, in one of his many interviews today, both called Obama "arrogant" for
sticking with the "unpopular" health care bill, and later claimed Bush was "sticking to his principles" (or something meaning the same thing) when HE implemented the unpopular "surge."

11. In general, the cons' game is to
(try to) make them look good, us look bad (ie, to con). And they don't let little things like consistency, reality, scruples get in their way.

But this is expectable and expected behavior, like dogs licking their own butts -- or lapping up vomit.

5. The funny thing is that they're not all that far apart.
All that parsing for nothing.

to bullshit like that.

I do think the Repubs are genuinely surprised he's been able to prevail against the left as well as the right to get HCR passed.

That's the kind of bi-partisanship they can hardly believe in.

14. I found this:
"When President George W. Bush declared earlier this month that the only way to quell sectarian violence in Iraq was to send more than 20,000 additional American troops, he probably knew the move would be unpopular," Brian Braiker writes for Newsweek. "Indeed, the latest NEWSWEEK poll finds that Bush’s call for a 'surge' in troops is opposed by two-thirds (68 percent) of Americans and supported by only a quarter (26 percent)."
