Sen. Scott Brown Accused of Harrassing Female Co-worker in 1998
Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) was accused of harassing a female campaign worker in 1998, Gawker reports.

"In 2000, Scott Brown was a freshman state representative in Massachusetts. A few years earlier, he'd served on the Wrentham, Mass. Board of Selectmen. Jennifer Firth, a local mortgage banker who was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 1999, filed a civil defamation suit against Brown in July of 2000, alleging that he had harassed her when she worked on his campaign in 1998, and then tried to smear her reputation around town with forged letters and emails."

According to the complaint, Brown engaged in "offensive" conduct that caused Firth to quit his campaign; he then tried to "defame and humiliate" her by spreading rumors to her colleagues that she "had made sexual advances" towards him during his campaign.

Later, Firth withdrew her suit after her lawyer filed a motion to withdraw as her counsel.

6. Ha ha!
By the way, what is up with many male politicians wanting to abuse their authority over the people that work for them?

4. Oh o. That sounds an awful lot like the kind of Republicon Family Values that...
Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 03:10 PM by SpiralHawk
...have so lowered the polls for the wide-stance, diaper-clad, ,male prostitute-boinking, systematically-hypocritical Republicon 'Party.'

Decent people -- I'm talking real Americans -- just cannot possibly respect such skanky hyprocrisy.

Republicons need to wake up and smell the stupendous STANK coming off of their own sanctimony.

15. Read the underlying articles - her lawyer walked away from it and it was dismissed
with prejudice. It likely would have backfired badly.

Just reading the link and the link it has, this is 12 years old and the woman's lawyer backed away from it.

2 years. I think he is off to a bit of a rocky start anyway.

22. I agree
He really seems in over his head. He seems to have bought the RW press view of himself, which could easily make him step on toes of people with far more power and seniority than he on the Republican side. His comment that the other Republicans followed him on the jobs bill was ludicrous. I guess he missed that Collins and Snowe crossed to vote for the budget and stimulus package. I seriously doubt that they waited to see which way Brown was going before they decided their positions.

He actually has a tough position. To be a rightwing favorite, he would have to be a DeMint clone - which likely would get him defeated in MA. But, if he votes like Snowe, he will quickly be hated by the RW of the Republican party - and they will turn nasty. Now, so far, he gets wonderful coverage in the MA papers for doing very little, but is that likely to continue?

24. If you want some laughs, read the comments on this article about his book deal
(Although the BG is liberal, their comments have always had LOTS of right wing idiots there for any Kerry article - so the main thing I see - is that, for the most part, they are not here protecting Brown.
http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2010/03/brown_lands_har.html?comments=all&plckCurrentPage=2

My favorite:

"We the People made a huge mistake. We voted a wannabe rock star into our Senate. He said that some of the book proceeds would go to charity, ya, like the check is in the mail. He also missed his lovely daughter's final college basketball game because he had to go stump for John McCain in Arizona. Promises, promises, I'm very sorry that I voted for Scott Brown and I feel very dumb for contributing to his campaign. What a disappointment, the Peoples seat now the B S seat."

(Before Brown took his seat, he spoke of how he would be back in MA all the time - and specifically said he would go to all his daughter's games. This was something he brought up - not something where he was asked. Now, as it was very near the end of the season, I figured he might - just to make a point. Now, he could have scheduled another weekend with McCain, but he didn't - and this person seems genuinely concerned that he was fooled. (I'm actually at bit surprised myself as it was her last game and he could have been there.)

25. LOL! The funniest thing is I watch America Idol every season (my husband is a singer himself and
got me into it). I remember Ayla well. She was WAY awkward. Not the best by any means. I wonder if she thinks she will get some kind of career from her father now being famous. The family seems to love the attention. Like I said, in over their heads a bit. When the actual work starts happening I bet Brown will be no where to be found.

35. As others said it was a perfect storm
An angry time, an over-confident Democratic, who when she realized she was falling behind did not have the political skill or personality to turn things around. I was surprised by that and several other comments because they did not sound at all like the typical RW Boston Globe commenters repeating Limbaugh and others. Some, like this one, seemed to really be MA people, swept up by a pleasant image and slogans - who are beginning to see through the curtain - and to worry that they made a mistake.

If all these parties ever do is spend all their time on uncovering every ounce of sexual misconduct to prove some kind of *one-upsmanship* over the other party, all we will have from morning to night 24/7 is finger pointing about how sexually immature, prudish, holier than thou, UNholier than thou, twisted or perverted everyone in public office is and we might as well rename our country the National Enquirer States of America'

We need leaders, not pubescent-ly hormonal whiners who can't seem to keep fingers, hands and mouths to themselves.

for an attorney to withdraw. Not so hard in a civil matter. It could have been as simple as she was not paying her legal bills.
