Is it right for your neighbor to get a better deal than you?
We all know that Florida is retirement destination for many seniors who flock there to escape the cold and snow and to enjoy their golden years in a sunny, pleasant climate.

But...what about all of us regular folk who pay in as much as they do to medicare....when we retire in MN, WI, IL...and all of the other 49 states, do we get the same benefits as our neighbors who paid in what we did?

I'd like to know your opinions on this. Senator Bill Nelson, our fellow dem from the great state of Florida has pushed and pushed to have Florida exempt from legislation that will affect the Medicare Advantage plan. You and I? We have to settle for less. Florida seniors? Wow, they must be special. It is quite interesting that Nelson has pushed this for the 3 largest dem counties in the state. Anything to protect a democratic vote?

Well, what about the rest of us? Do you care about this issue or are you willing to turn a blind eye? I know if this was a republican in TX doing something comparable that there would be a huge backlash. Is it ok when it is within our party?

I'm not a McCain fan...but...didn't he propose protecting Medicare in all states? Why wouldn't we want to do this? Does this mean that Nelson knows that big cuts are coming and he wants to protect people in his state? What about the rest of us?

1. The Medicare Advantage Plan is an HMO
I think people confuse this with Medicare. With Medicare YOU make the decisions not Medicare Advantage. They have been scamming the Medicare system and need to be stopped. Medicare is NOT Medicare Advantage. Medicare Advantage is an insurance
Company that you turn over your Medicare for them to manage.

2. Most people, I think now understand the Medicare Advantage.
situation. It is a compelling argument that some Seniors
were able to have their Plans grandfathered in and other
states did not.

Like the Nebraska Medicaid deal, this may be taken out.

3. Why do you think Nelson
saw fit to provide an exemption for the three largest dem voting counties in Florida if it's really not that big of a deal?

I'm really curious, because if it is just you and me making decisions and there aren't widespread cuts and changes coming that might affect voting Floridians...what's up with the special favor.

I get really outraged when republicans pull crap like this.

4. Here's some info
Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 02:26 PM by billh58
about Medicare Advantage plans:

http://www.medicare.gov/choices/advantage.asp

And this is all I could find on the DLC's poster boy, Nelson, and his insurance company welfare payback:

http://www.theledger.com/article/20090925/NEWS/909265030?Title=Sen-Nelson-Defends-Medicare-Advantage

It appears that everyone on Medicare pays a portion of the Medicare Advantage costs, unless I'm missing something. Who knew...?

Life isn't fair to begin with, and every person lives within a unique set of contracts, terms, conditions, laws, rules, regulations, etc. Any advantage Florida seniors get for living in Florida is probably offset by something else.

My neighbors on either side pay much lower property tax than I do, because they bought their homes at a different time. It's not a problem for me.
