Kyl defends Bunning blocking unemployment benefits
Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 11:44 AM by Joanne98
On the morning of the day unemployment benefits are set to expire across America, one Republican senator defended the ideology of another. "All Senator Bunning was saying quite correctly is it ought to be paid for," Sen. Jon Kyl told Fox News' Chris Wallace.

Sen. Kyl (R-AZ) explained Sunday why Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) was justified in blocking another extension of unemployment benefits.

"Congress just passed the so-called pay-go legislation which is supposed to require that we find offsets or other savings if we are going to spend money. So what's the first thing we do? We exempt this bill from it," he complained.

But Kyl does believe the extension of benefits will eventually pass because they are temporary. "It will pass, though, because it's a temporary extension. The question for the longer term extension is a different issue because that's well over $100 billion," he added.

1. Let me get this straight: Now that Obama is president, they want to pay for stuff?
When Bush was "president," they passed everything without worrying about paying for it, and cut taxes drastically for the very rich, too.

A**holes.

7. Yes. When they were in control of all 3 branches, they didn't pay for any of the bills they passed.

They just let the "tab" run. Then when President Obama took office, essentially told him, "Here's the check, sonny, it's about $1.5 trillion. Pay it for us while we get our cars out of valet parking. It's almost tee time on the green."

8. I thought PayGo was supposed to start in 2011, not now.
The economy needs another year of spending to get us through. I doubt if Kyl read it.
