The summit can only make things worse for Republicans: GOPremature damage control edition
GOP declares summit a failure before it ends

Arguably, the most interesting aspect of today's summit is what has transpired outside the summit, with Republicans high and low trashing the summit and making it clear they will not be a part of health care reform.

For example: John Boehner announced the summit's failure by press release during the summit:

Yes, Washington Democrats have recently begun incorporating into their rhetoric a few of the same words Republicans have long used. But when you dig beneath the newly-minted rhetoric and actually look at the text of their bills, it quickly becomes evident that they haven't actually incorporated any of the major health care reforms Republicans support.

Another example: John Thune goes on Fox to declare summit a failure, making it clear that Republicans won't be a part of passing health care reform:

<...>

And Media Matters Action collects even more examples, including statements from Mitch McConnell, Mike Pence, John Kyl, Eric Cantor, John Barasso, and Joe Barton.

3. They should have listened to Limbaugh and refused to go.
But Noooooooo, they had to go and embarrass themselves. If they insist on being autocratic corporatist jerk-offs, they should act the part.

5. Not unexpected
The Rethugs were using this as an opportunity to gin up some sound bites to run during their campaigns about how they "stood up to Obama" when it came time to "oppose socialism". His job was to fob off blame for failure on them.

Both sides got what they wanted.

6. This is a good thing. Imagine if they actually decided to play ball?
By the time they were done adding their shit to the bill, it would be unrecognizable and bad for the people if it passed.
