I am not looking forward to the cynical undressing of what I think is a very good day for American
politics. As much as I love Stewart and Colbert, I am not looking forward to watching this event get cynically marginalized comedy-wise.

Sometimes politics is better delivered through cinema verite. I find it interesting that, although we are watching GOVERNANCE in play in this session, that because it's being delivered through the mass media, many analysts have classified this as nothing more than political theater. That's sad. We want our media to work for the benefit of democracy, but then we don't take seriously - and cynically dismiss - that which is presented to us through the media, even if it's plug-and-play C-SPAN.

A complicated nexus between ideals and reality in media and politics.

1. It is political theatre
And its going to be hilarious theatre once Stewart gets his hands on it. Colbert will pass due to his Vancoverage

2. IF all sides were really trying to hash out a deal I'd agree...
... but it's clear SOME of the folks in the room are just trying to chain together some soundbites for the 6pm news.

John and Stephen .... fire when ready! ;)

5. Stewart and Colbert, they are comedians
and great ones at that.

The cynical undressing by fools on blogs and the media is what is I am not looking forward to seeing.

6. I understand you completely

I prefer this way actually. Or that is to watch the whole thing stream online from C-SPAN 3 or Whitehouse.gov then listen to commentary. Also I adore ducking commercials. If political humor or commentary ends up bothering or offending me later, I'll switch it off. I will likely watch Keith and Rachel tonight.

I love humor and can appreciate snarky wit. I do wish civil discourse wasn't largely a lost art in our nation. If forced to choose among all of these I'd take being able to view the proceedings unfiltered online.
