POLL: Public Split But Majority Back Key Provisions of Health Care Reform Legislation
Public Split But Majority Back Key Provisions

The latest Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds the public evenly divided on health care reform legislation, with 43% in favor and 43% opposed. However, the survey also finds that at a majority of Republicans, Democrats and independents "back at least some of the key provisions in the reform bills that have passed the House and Senate."

"They include measures that would: reform the way health insurance works, such as preventing insurers from excluding people because of pre-existing conditions; offer tax credits to small businesses to help their workers get coverage; create a new health insurance marketplace; help close the Medicare 'doughnut hole' so that seniors would no longer face a period of having to pay the full cost of their medicines; and expand high-risk insurance pools for individuals who cannot get coverage elsewhere."

"Providing subsidies to lower and middle income people also receives strong support from Democrats and independents and near majority support from Republicans."

1. It would be more popular with the public option or medicare buy-in.
I think that is shown by most of the polling.

2. That much is true.

It amazes me that the provisions most supported by the people are the also the ones hardest to actually get into the legislation.

4. Yes, what are these Senators thinking about, besides their own pockets of course?

6. The president does not support the public option.
And for all I know, he doesn't support the medicare buy-in either.

Certainly not enough to include it in his bill.

He seems to be our most significant obstacle right now.

8. That makes me laugh.
He is the biggest obstacle? Really? Not certain Senators, like Jay Rockefeller, who support public option but not in reconciliation? Our Senate is pathetic. There are hardly any true progressives in there. I think Obama can be a lot tougher on the Senate but he is not the biggest obstacle. He knows the votes just are not there at the present time.

9. If the president would lead, he could probably get Jay on board.

Come on let's just face it. He does not care one iota about this issue.

He killed the PO in his mind back in summer, if he ever supported it at all.

10. I do think he gave up too easily. Too willing to settle.
I doubt it is because he doesn't want it. I have criticized him about the need to get tougher. I also doubt the Senate.

3. EVERYONE ...
print the following and forward it to your congressman/senator, especially the lilly livered "moderate"
dems ...

Beyond simply DOING THE RIGHT THING, PASSING HCR WILL HELP YOU!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a candidate for Congress SUPPORTED

health care reform legislation, would that make

you more likely to vote for him or her, less

likely to vote for him or her, or wouldn’t it make

much difference in your vote?

35% more likely
37% no difference
24% less likely
4% DNK

If a candidate for Congress OPPOSED health

care reform legislation, would that make you

more likely to vote for him or her, less likely to

vote for him or her, or wouldn’t it make much

difference in your vote?

26% more liklely
36% no difference
35% less likely
3% DNK

5. NateDogg the genius points out that...
... the Kaiser poll is one of the few to include cell phone uses and to conduct polling in Spanish.

Giving support to my theory that polls, in general, lean right because they ignore/tend to exclude the President's supporters (minorities and the young.)

7. I Suspect Of All Polls Now.....
because they always seem to be evenly divided. That's just too convenient. I think they are making this stuff up. I can't believe that this country is equally divided down the middle on every issue.
