Scott Brown: "I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside..."
Edited on Mon Feb-22-10 11:45 PM by Clio the Leo
I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families. This Senate jobs bill is not perfect. I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I voted for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.

I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability. I hope for improvements in that process going forward. All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track. I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington.

1. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get sucked in by Scott Brown.
This was a bone-throw to the 20% of Democrats who voted for him.

We will not get ANYTHING useful out of him again. The guy is a good-for-nothing snake-in-the-grass and he STILL deserves to be bounced out in 2012.

4. You may be right, but I'm willing to wait and see. He is one of a
very few rebugs left in the NE, and MAYBE he really wants to keep his new job. If he were to join te group of "Just say no to everything" he most likely would never get elected. Remember, he's just serving out Teddy's term before he has to face his own election.

I'm a hard core Dem, but I still believe in giving everyone at least one chance to show they are being honest. I'll do that for Brown too.

7. He voted to move a bill out of debate and into a vote, not on the bill itself.
I'd bet ANYTHING that he votes against the jobs bill when the final tally is counted.

13. In this current atmosphere, voting for cloture IS voting for passage....
... even if you cast a symbolic no vote against it in the final stage.

6. Thank you!
I honestly don't get this (almost) admiration that DU is exhibiting for the weasel. All because of a cloture vote in favor of a Dem bill. I am willing to bet that, had there not been 4 other Repubs voting for cloture, Brown would not have cast a deciding vote against his leadership.
This was a definite bone for the MA indies and Dems who voted for him, as you said. Nothing more. He is not to be trusted.

10. Gordon Smith played that game for years
He was given permission to vote against things like the Arctic Refuge, but when it came down to loyalty to the party, he was always right there. They can buffalo people for years with these pandering votes.

3. I'm not going to scorn him

He's a Pub from a very blue state. It's an obvious choice on his part not to be a total wingnut if he wants a chance at holding on to his job. Maybe he can be occasionally useful to us.

9. The guy wants headlines, not bipartisanship.
He knows he's facing an uphill AT BEST reelection in 2012.
