3. Why don't these rallies get the press that the TeaPartiers do?
They have 600 people at a conference, it's in prime time. We have a protest of ANY size and it's not news. Corporate ownership of the media? Isn't there a word for rule by corporate powers? I think if we're not there yet, we're headed there.

7. Doesn't fit their narrative.
Which is: Rightwing groups are "the little guy" struggling against the tide of "liberalism" and a "liberal media." (insert rolling eyes here)

Even under Bush, when the Republicans had total control, THAT was made to come across as the minority, right-minded, common-sensical little guys finally getting a chance to run things, struggling to protect their birthright against "liberalism" and a "liberal media" that wanted to wrest control from them.

It's all just narrative. Plus, conflict sells. Well, conflict and sex. There, that's pretty much media programming in two words right there.

14. As if us peons have the financial resources to counter this diversionary movement...
away from a national, not for profit HC system.

Honestly, whoever heard of the public option before 2007/2008, since the late 1980's the majority of people have favored a national HC system such as the Canadian or UK system. T

Then along comes the public option and the marketing campaign behind it...the rest is history.

The PO is just like Medicare ... BS!

But it sure played well in the polls.

19. All of the sudden Health Care for America was formed in 2008 and became
a major voice in the HC movement, that does not happen overnight without money and cooperation from the corporate sector.

Just the facts.

a great job of selling this mandate to buy a private product.

Health insurance companies know what will come starting in the next few years, the boomers begin to retire and they move to Medicare. Enrollment in Medicare goes from 46 million to 79 million.

They Need, Need customers and their product has become increasingly too expensive for more and more people.

To the rescue comes mandated, tax payer subsidized purchase of private insurance. The Republicans could not have sold this to us, only our own party could have pulled this off.

And just to make it sweeter the administration makes a back room deal with Billy Tauzin so that this HC reform bill will not allow Medicare to negotiate for drug prices...remember those boomers as they are key! Remember the campaign promise and the ad "Billy" by the Obama campaign.

It does not matter that he campaigned on the idea of allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, saving hundreds of billions of dollars. Also the proposed HC bills shift savings from Medicare to partially pay for the private insurance mandates!

What's not to like.

Edited on Sat Feb-20-10 10:21 PM by Oregone
Because thats the bullshit line you pulled all fuckn summer rather than actually debate the structure of this "health insurance reform". Well, whoops, bait and switch.

LOL.

Hey....you know what makes me laugh? The signs that say "Health Care For America Now". Health Care? They think thats what this is about? What a riot.

18. Health Care for America Now? Thats what they believe in? Thats what they march for?
Sure fine...but they might be dismayed to learn the "solution" is not health care for America, but mandated multi-tiered private insurance.

Im not complaining. Its a fucking riot.

11. When did Health Care for America start, who funded and backed this movement...
the original 2007 plan by Jacob Hacker was called Health Care for America. Then in 2008 Health Care for America Now was formed and became the dominant voice for HC reform.

The PO that has been proposed in no way resembles the original Hacker plan.

17. Just my humble opinion, he was the original architect going back to his
2001 paper, then "went along" and became a tool as the plans were weakened. There comes a point when you no longer want say the emperor has no clothes, and I think that happened to others who originally backed his plans. They just kept making excuses as the original plan became weaker and weaker.
