Pawlenty : First Conservative Principle: 'God is in Charge'
It is now official.

From a biblical, theological, political and a US history perspective -

Tim Pawlenty is an idiot.

Pawlenty’s Principles: ‘God’s in Charge’
By ADAM NAGOURNEY
The Conservative Political Action Conference heard from another likely presidential candidate for 2012 on Friday – Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. Mr. Pawlenty offered a series of what he called principles for the conservative movement that have become familiar here: Reducing the size of government, opposing President Obama’s health care plan, denouncing Mr. Obama’s handling of terrorist.

But at a conference where there has not been a lot of talk about social issues, Mr. Pawlenty raised one as he laid out the principles conservatives should follow.

The first one is this: God’s in charge,” he said. “God is in charge.” Mr. Pawlenty’s remarks drew a wave of applause. “There are some people who say, “Oh, you know, Pawlenty, don’t bring that up. You know, it’s politically incorrect.”

“Hogwash,” Mr. Pawlenty said. “These are enshrined in the founding documents and perspective of our country. In the Declaration of Independence, it says we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights. It doesn’t say we’re endowed by Washington, D.C., or endowed by the bureaucrats or endowed by state government; it’s by our creator that we are given these rights..”

This is exactly the same first principle of Al Queda and the Taliban.

And now you know how a secular Muslim feels when people ask them why the hell they didn't stop the Taliban and Al Queda when they first started expressing their bullshit.

And of course if you believed Pawlenty's tripe you would believe that God wanted President Obama elected, because after all he's in charge, (he was just taking a sabatical during the Holacaust).

4. Pandering to the conservative crowd. Getting ready for a
Pawlenty/Palin 2012 bumpersticker next. God is only in charge if things turn out the way they (conservatives)like it to turn out. :eyes: Otherwise, I guess God made a mistake .

Was god not guiding George, according to George. So, god hates Iraq and loves corporations. Do the right wing believers ever question anything?

7. My creator was my mother and father
They were young and foolish. So, here I am.

Didn't many move to the U.S. due to religious persecution? I wasn't a very good student but that sticks in my mind. We are suppose to be accepting of all religions here in the U.S. and that includes those of us that don't believe in a higher power.

People that think they have all the right answers are frightening. Those teabaggers believe they know what is right for the masses. Don't ask them any hard questions because they don't have answers. They are god inspired and blessed, no need for deep thoughts.

and miscontsrue. Those rights he speaks of are endowed to each by 'their' own creator, not by an 'our' collective creator. He also neglects that Republicans are hell bent on interfering with and in some cases eliminating the specific inalienable rights mentioned, those being "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." I'd also go one step further and say that given the topics of some of the speakers and the explicit identification of liberals, progressives, and socialist democrats as 'enemies', quoting the Declaration of Independence in this case rather than the Constitution itself could be heard as a dog whistle for fomenting revolution. These groups are definitely reaching the level of being a physical threat to the well being of this nation and those of us on the 'enemies' list would do well to be prepared.

25. Does anyone else from MN remember Timmy so openly mentioning God?
I don't think I can remember him campaigning on religion. Seem to adopted that rather quickly or I haven't been paying close enough attention.

Doesn't he usually try to play a moderate on TV during campaigns, and then rule like a corportistic dictator?

Then again running for president is different than running to be the governor of a liberal state. Despite Bachmann, the extreme loonies are uncommon here, and even our evangelical types submit to the principles of "Minnesota Nice".

38. No, he didn't.
He's a little weasel of the first order. He's ruined this state by refusing to raise income taxes no matter what, which has decimated our infrastructure (see 35W bridge disaster and unbelievably poor roads AND slower snow plowing), cut funding for domestic abuse prevention programs, health care for the poor, AND we have lots of air quality warnings now.

I hate his fucking guts and wish he would drop dead. NOW.

31. So Pawlenty's god is a warmonger who doesn't want people to have health care?
And "Rev." Pat Roberts' god is a demonic homophobe into drowning or flattening whole cities to make a point? I'm only going by the descriptions given by RW believers.

It just doesn't seem like the same god as this one, does it:

Jesus said, "Not all who say, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 7:21).

But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor. 13:13)

'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. ... I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ (Matt. 25:35-40)
